On a side note, is Michael Owen the most self absorbed twat ever? He can't help but talk about himself and even then when Mario scores he's all claiming he knew he was going to score but didn't want to say anything. Sure you did Michael.

He's awful. I forget, then I watch a match once in a while and...

great entertaining game of football and win for the Reds, Ibe looking pretty decent already, delighted Mario scored and even on the pitch, we're gonna need him with the amount of games coming up, the dark days of September - November seem a good while ago, long may it continue

What a player Can is. At £10m surely Rodger/s best buy of the summer.

We should be building our midfield around him for the next 10 years (if he wants to stay that long). I just love those long, aggressive runs he goes on. I can understand why he's playing at the back at the moment, but he really is being wasted somewhat in that role.

Very good win in a very good game of football. Both teams constantly attacking from start to finish, it was a bit like basketball at times. Good to see Sturridge not looking too rusty, great to see Ibe start (and have another good game), pleased to see Markovic's good form so far this year is continuing and chuffed to see Mario finally score, and the winner no less.

3 of our next 5 league games are against teams currently above us, too, so there's an opportunity to claw some points back on them.

Isn't it nice to feel some optimism again? :D

Every time I miss a Liverpool game that's showing on BT Sport I get annoyed to not have the channel. Then I remember it means not having to listen to that twat Owen (or contribute to his wages) so feel a little better.

Wished I'd seen this game though. Happy for Mario, hope that's the first of many PL goals for him...

"Fletch & Sav", their post-match show, really has to be seen to be believed; it's indescribably bad.

Also, tonight it was worth it just for the moment when they had Alan Sugar on the phone for some reason and Savage tried to make an Apprentice joke about Sugar sacking Rose for giving away the penalty or something. Sugar was just silent for a few seconds and then started talking about something else.

Great result, need to keep the pressure on to ensure we get a top four slot.

Agree, I'm glad Sky got most of the PL rights from the new bidding.

To be fair, they should have had a penalty as well, I think both teams could rightly suggest the ref was poor.

Cracking game otherwise though, and it's pleasing that we played well without a couple of key players, when throughout the rest of the season we might have struggled. Can in particular continues to impress, I'd love to have a clone of him so we can play him twice, because although he's obviously better off at centre mid, I love having him in the back line as well.

What should they have had a penalty for? Mignolet on Kane? He was offside (again), anyway.

I completely agree about Can. I said in here during the summer that he was the signing I was most excited about. I wasn't sure we'd see him force his way into the team so quickly, though!

He was offside, there was no contact from Mig, and Kane dived. Other than that, definitely a penalty...

We definitely had the bulk of Dowd's awful decisions: offside goal against us (from a highly questionable free kick that at the very least was never a yellow for Gerrard), various other ridiculous bookings (though maaaybe Sakho's was worth a yellow), no penalty if it weren't for the linesman standing firm, etc.
