Jesus you lot deserve this, we are completely devoid of any creative ideas, any touch, or any dynamic movement at all. Just going long ball all the time now.

I was just thinking how strange it is that Everton are at home. You don't seem to be doing much.

However when we get a cross into the box we maybe have 2 people there? It could easily be a small n grab/Gerrard sent off/Gerrard missed a last minute pen...

Well that was one of the most boring derbys I've seen on a long time but we really should have come away with a win then and closed the gap to 4th to 2 points. Once Coutinho and Sterling went off we didn't seem to have any creativity either.

Yeah, the subs really seemed to sap our momentum unfortunately, when they finally came. I realise Sturridge is being handled carefully but we needed him on earlier; he's either fit or he isn't. For all our domination we didn't really trouble the keeper at all.

In the current system at the very least one of Coutinho or Lallana simply have to play, ideally both. Gerrard cant fill that role and as soon as Coutinho went off it was clear how different the game became.

Also, shame for Lucas. He missed the midweek game to a thigh injury and clearly today was too early for him to come back. He could be a massive miss against Tottenham on Tuesday, I was worried that could have been a big problem this evening but luckily Everton were completely devoid of any creation from central midfield and never really got at Allen.

Tottenham on the other hand have a much better midfield so a missing Lucas could be the difference between winning or losing. It might be time to trust Can to go into the holding midfield position. Something needs doing because Allen simply isn't good enough. There again he is the Welsh Xavi so we shouldn't expect him to defend too much ;)

I'm not sure why the sub's were chosen, removing creative players?

I still feel this is our problem, sure it's a results business yet against decent sides we are still wanting this season.

Speaking about form is all well and good yet we've not played against good teams.

The last two we played, away from home, were Chelsea and Man U. We were beaten and humped.

We've have a decent run of fixtures and still struggled against poor sides

Whilst you have something of a point, I think the biggest improvement of late is that we are starting to look a bit more solid, and don't look like conceding to every attack the opposition has. Sahko was a bit dodgy today but other than that has been so much better than Lovren, Skrtel is playing decently and whilst I'd still prefer to see Can moved to midfield sharpish, he's obviously helped in the ability to play the ball from the back. Even Mignolet has been fairly comfortable. I mean, his distribution is atrocious and he is far too flappy on crosses, but he's made some good saves and kept clean sheets.

A lot of our form recently has been because Phil has been on fire, and taking him off today was a mistake as he was controlling and linking play. Sterling had a quiet game and after Lucas went off Gerrard wasn't going to push forward as much because who would if you only had Joe Allen screening the defence?

It wasn't a great game though and, as hmm says, whilst we did control the game we didn't actually give Robles any troubles. One of the problems we've had a fair amount since Sterling was pushed up top - mentioned by others and me previously - is that we lack bodies in the box. Indeed, I'd be interested to know how many good chances we've created in the box since, say, Christmas, as my feeling is that more of our chances have been pot-shots from outside the box.

Still, compared the shambles we were up to late November/early December, the team looks much better and settled.

Drab game, not much quality on show, although agree we look more settled. Just about the better side but that's probably more to do with the way Everton were set up not to lose.

Positives, Ibe is a beast. Still raw but if he develops in any way similar to Sterling, our front line is going to look fantastic again. And Can is just

What makes the result even more annoying is that again we've made no ground up on Spurs, United or Southampton. I know it's an obvious thing to say but if we want 4th we need to be winning games in which we're dominant

No Sterling tonight either so Sturridge must be a starter. Rodgers has also suggested Can will not be moving from defence because he has looked pretty bloody good there recently. If he sticks to his normal pattern Gerrard wont be a starter either, he might not even be in the squad.

That all amounts to an interesting line up. Keeper and defence picks itself but the midfield needs a couple of changes. I could see Allen coming in for Lucas, Lallana will replace Gerrard and Markovic for Ibe because Markovic has actually been quite solid down the right side.

Not got a good feeling about tonight, Spurs seem to be on a decent run and they have players who can exploit spaces between defence and midfield. Exactly the area that is a weakness without Lucas in the team, no other player in the squad can fulfill his role like he does.

I think we'll see Markovic come in for Sterling, and Gerrard move back to replace Lucas. Sturridge to start and Ibe to keep his place as we've nobody else that can play there if Markovic is playing further forward.

I'd personally much prefer to see Toure at RCB and Can replacing Lucas, but it's clear Brendan isn't in a rush to move Can into the midfield.
