Alan Shearer's comments about Gerrard before the match make me sad the club did not do more to persuade Gerrard to stay at the club.

Alan Shearer's comments are bullshit. A club shouldn't keep a player just because of years of service. Gerrard is no longer the best option in a Liverpool team, so his choices are either retire or move on. He shouldn't be given a spot just because.

Despite being second-best for much of that half, it's been a decent game to watch.

Changes needed though. I said a week or so ago the Can looked vulnerable in a back 3, he needs to either move into midfield or come off. I'd stick him in goal (can't be worse than Mignolet) and bring Balotelli on.

We've actually played some decent stuff going forward in this half, but Lambert might as well not be there. He should have done better with his chance, too. Phil has been really good, quick feet, looked to take players on, moved the ball at pace - he's been key. I think Markovic has done alright, and I think Gerrard's been much more in the mix in this second half.

And that would have been a lovely goal.

I think we shaded it in the end. The first half was Wimbledon's, but in the second we started to pose a threat going forward. We still defend terribly (though I thought Sakho was very good) but Phil was on top form, Gerrard linked play well, Markovic started to deliver on the promise he has and we created chances. Lambert was the weak-link in the chain, though not entirely his fault.

Wimbledon were really good though, caused us plenty of problems with crosses into the box. Credit to Mignolet, though, his block tackle at the end probably saved us a reply.

Good entertainment and a lovely advert for the cup.

We weren't good guys, against league 2 opposition. We just about did enough, but our goalie, Can, Lambert and Lucas were all pretty terrible. Gerrard gave the ball away loads in dangerous areas and in general we rode our luck. 2 great goals from Gerrard though and Coutinho, Markovic and Hendo all had good games.

Roll on Heskey smashing a winner past us!

I still think he could play a role at the club & it will be sad to see him go.

Yes it's sentiment talking but he had chances to leave before & turned them down to stay at LFC. I still think LFC could have persuaded him to stay & finish his career at the club.

On so many occasions like today he has grab the game by the scruff of the neck & made sure we win.

Where did Gerrard's shirt go? Akinfenwa called dibs on that before the game but never got it, wouldn't want to be the person standing in the way of what he wants.

From one beast of a player to another in the next round. Return of Heskey. Hopefully we've replaced Mignolet by then - and not with Brad Jones again.

Nice that Heskey will make one last appearance at Anfield and I expect he'll get a good reception. He may never have been even close to the same standard in later seasons, for us or subsequent teams, but he was unstoppable during the treble season.

Agreed, 22 goals from 48 starts was a great return in quite an incredible season. An ex girlfriend of mine had helped during the birth of one of his children and said he was such a lovely person, incredibly friendly and approachable, did lots of signings and photos and even brought presents in for the staff to say thank you.

It will be very nice for him to make a final Anfield appearance. I'm sure the crowd appreciate all of his efforts for us and will give him a great reception.

Akinfenwa got one, a fan got the other.

So after stating there were no issues with the club last week Gerrard has now come out stating he would have signed in the summer before he knew his games would be restricted because Rodgers wanted to manage his games. He didn't want to be a squad player, very strange attitude for an older player but that has been Gerrard's biggest weakness, he is very much up his own arse.

Yeah, have to agree with that. I've just read the BBC article on it and am disappointed that is his response. I can accept that he didn't want to be a squad player if he feels fit enough to carry on, but it doesn't really serve any purpose to now throw this back at the club and essentially say it's the fault of the owners. Poor show.

Yeah. While he's served the club, the club has served him. Very well.

When he smacked up a DJ and walked was he repantant? Will he speak about that?

It's fucking childish.
