Never a red, but let's face it, you can't blame Safari for going down there.

I think you can very much blame him for rolling around like he'd just been scalped by the tip of Markovic's fingernail.

This ref is utter bollocks. How was that foul on Sterling just now not a yellow? Don't get me wrong, it makes fuck all difference because we're more than capable of screwing this up on our own, but even so.

He saw him coming and swung out a hand in the direction of his face *and* made contact. Either way you split it, it was begging for a red card. He didn't need to break a nose for it to be violent conduct.

Markovic's finger should never be there. It's an open invitation. "Here, Basle player, let me have a red card. Go on." It's bloody stupid, that's what it is. I guess a lot of players would gladly have accepted that invitation.

Regardless Liverpool are devoid of anything good right now, and while I have belief in the manager still, his initial team selection was poor. Which even I can see.

He wanted the glory of sending Liverpool through. Just like that Basel player who shot at the near post right at the end when a simple ball across the box or a pull back would've almost certainly created a goal.

Sunday needs to be Sterling partnered up top with Ballotelli if he is fit because Lambert looks knackered.

Balotelli needs a partner and I think the pace Sterling can bring up top is the best chance the team have. Especially considering Sterling's passing is horrendous.

Either way the lack of depth in the squad up front is criminal, is Borini injured?

I'm wondering if Sterling is actually any good. He's fast sure, but what else? I've occasionally seen good stuff but he fucks up a lot of moves. Maybe it's just the team as a whole right now.

I've been very critical of Sterling in the past (certainly the season before last) for being a bit Aaron Lennon - all pace and no end product - but last season he showed he had built up his game and actually started looking like a really good prospect. His form has dropped again this season though and I think a combination of a lack of confidence, the poor performers around him and the expectation that he's a saviour have really hit him hard.

Anyway, I missed all of the game and it sounds like I was spared seeing us stumble out of the tournament. It's been a terrible campaign, really, when most would probably say our best performance was losing to Real Madrid away.

Fully deserved to be eliminated.

Can't say I was expecting a result tonight, still gutted though. How long until we get another crack at the CL, just feel so deflated, wait for so long to get back into the competition and then do so poorly.

Fantastic goal from Gerrard. Stupidity from Markovic - don't know what he was doing. Poor performance overall.

Least we have the Europa league to look forward to now... j2Xil.gif

The fact it's now out of the group stages and the winner gets champions league automatically the Europa league will be taken more seriously by clubs.

It's much like the capital one cup,a nuisance till the latter stages when silverware is a possibility.

Back to Thursday/Sunday for as long as they last in it.
