Indeed, if you only looked at the league table for the first time today you'd probably expect them to be gearing-up for their traditional Christmas push now. Heck, 8 points this season doesn't seem such a massive gap as it would have a couple of games ago.

This is what happens with zero pace in the midfield and attack (except Sterling). Gerrard and Lambert are offering nothing here, far too easy to mark, they simply can't escape their markers.

An utterly abject performance so far. Sterling is the only one trying things but even at that again his decision making has gone to shit, but it's absolutely ridiculous that we're putting everything through a 20 year old no matter how good he is. Yet again, no drive, no passion, nobody trying to gee the team up or take the game by the scruff of the neck. I cannot believe the sheer idiocy behind their goal, we'd already see how much pressure they were piling on at Mignolet's short passes but he still went and passed it out when there was absolutely no need to. That happens with people doing nets at the 5 a side I play in and even then every player will go mental at the keeper, I don't know how professionals can let that kind of thing happen. Enrique's being sucked far too deep into central positions when the ball's on our right too and he's twice been at fault waiting for the pass to come to him when there's a Basel player breathing down his neck. Too slow all over the pitch again, no urgency to our play. Rodgers is in a huge, huge mess. He's clearly a talented manager but he really needs to get rid of his stubborn streak when the chips are down. Last year he was making changes before half time if he thought the game deserved it, this year when under pressure he's acted like a petulant child cutting his nose off to spite his face.

We simply don't belong in the next round.
