Everyone calling for Brad Jones to be given a chance, have you ever seen him play? He is completely hapless, like much much worse than I've seen Mignolet play. Brad Jones has never, in all his time at the club, had a performance that I think would suggest he should take Mignolet's place.

I've always said that Jones is nowhere near good enough, so I agree with you, Adrock. Neither of our keepers are up to scratch so it's picking the least-worst (which is, sadly, Mignolet.)

We need a Houllier-esque moment, like after that fateful Bolton defeat back in August 2001.

We won you moaning gobshites.

:P

Yes, we did. And apart from Mignolet and dropping a little too deep in the last 15 minutes, we didn't look too bad. As I said in the main football thread, we looked a bit better as an attacking unit (albeit without creating masses of chances) than recently - apart from Lambert still not getting support. But Sterling was brighter and was a good out ball, Gerrard was more involved in the game and defensively Toure and Skrtel look a better pairing than Lovren and...anyone.

Hopefully we can continue to build on this on Sunday so that we go into the Basel game with a bit of form behind us.

I don't think the performance was that bad, the ref was terrible and they were playing a team who up until tonight had lost once at home so far.

Very happy to see Moreno taking instructions to sit back and not go all out attack.

Again Lucas has shown why he should be first choice in his position at the moment.

Also, regardless of how shit Mignolet is, the actual goal wasn't his fault surely. That's a terribly unlucky deflection

I'm amazed that anyone is surprised by Lee Mason being completely biased against us, almost as much as I am by the fact he is still allowed to officiate games we are involved in.

He should be locked up with Mourinho, Chiles, exwhyzed, and the rest of the football criminals.

We were playing a team who are bottom of the table, won once at home in the league, down to 10 men and they still looked a more controlled side.

I'm happy with the win, im not happy with the way we played and their goal came again from comical defending by us. We are a shadow of last year's team and it's taken Rodgers far too many games to change the team for the better. We are also in desperate need of a class striker, Lambert worked his socks off but we can't rely on him until Sturridge is fit.

Positives, Lallana looked great, Gerrard played better further forward, Hendooooooooo is coming back into form along with Sterling (although the ref didn't help him at all). We also defended Corners and Crosses much much better. Another victory at Sunderland would really give the boys a boost, I just hope he doesn't tinker with the team too much.

Yes we did, but god were we shite!

Yep but only one mention of a goal and one mention that we won and they were in posts complaining!

Come on at least enjoy the win before putting the boot in.

Lee Mason grows potatoes in his head.

It's difficult to enjoy the win though when we really don't look like a good side at all. Up against better teams, the way we are playing at the mo, we'd be fucked. I'm just hoping our confidence grows and grows until we look good again.

Is this any different to Man United at the moment? They have strung some wins together against struggling teams and seem to be riding high with the fans and the media, yet they are still acknowledged to be weak defensively and not playing particularly well.

I think we will struggle to reach the dizzy heights of last season both in terms of performance and style of play (even when/if Sturridge returns), but I hope Rodgers can adapt to our different forward line-up better than we have in the last few months.

With the Wealdstone Raider standing watch taunting them.

Well the difference is that Man I are in the top-4 and not playing great, whereas we aren't and we're not.

Plus, I think there is the general feeling that they can point to a lot of key injuries, so there is a bit of optimism that when LVG can play his best side, they will look alright. For us, there are already rumblings in the media that the summer signings haven't been great, plus Mignolet's form etc.

SMD - I certainly enjoyed the win (and got a bit overexcited when we scored) but what I enjoy about this thread is the analysis (good and bad). And I did list some positives, its just that at the moment there is more requiring fixing and I like to hear other views on that.

We were the better team yesterday. At 1-1 we looked like the more threatening team by far, which is a massive thing to say considering our play this season. We were a bit rocky at points but I'd expect that playing away this season. Even against Leicester.

Aspas scored a hattrick in a 4 minute period tonight. Time to recall him from that loan.

He's clearly the key to success.

> Finish 7th 2 seasons ago

> Sign Aspas and finish 2nd in the league

> Loan Aspas out and struggle

Coincidence?

We're through the looking glass here, people.

Awful is the new normal.

Pretty rubbish all around, really. Like the Hull game the only positive - a clean sheet - is rather flattering as Sunderland were never too interested in looking to push forward. And even then we still looked weak against set-pieces.

So take that away and it's the same old story - no invention and nothing to change it from the bench. I honestly think we'd do as well not to play any striker these days, for the lack of support they get. What does Rodgers expect Lambert to be able to do when he has nobody anywhere near him most of the time? Pantilimon had 1 save to make (and a pretty straightforward one at that). That's just frankly shocking, really.

Roll-on a dour draw against Basel in midweek.

Can't see a win this weekend at all. If we cat beat Sunderland at home, how are we going to beat United away when they are on winning form?

6 points behind 4th and if we lose again with other results going against us we could be 9 points behind and in the bottom half of the league.

Finding it it hard to be optimistic about the next 2 games this week.
