For the guys picking the performance apart: if the referee had not made a huge error at the death of the game, it is quite likely we'd have come out of it with a point. Can anybody really say that's 'not good enough' when you consider it was against the best team in the league and they were playing well on the day?

The last two games have raised my spirits about our chances of competing this season a little bit. The manager seems to have settled on the system, and found a way to fix a few of the issues. Yeah, it's far from perfect at the moment. But hopefully Flanagan, Sakho and Sturridge coming back will take us up a notch or two.

We may well have come out of it with a draw if the ref wasn't terrible, but what would that performance have told us? We are still completely toothless in attack, unable to defend set-pieces (or keep a clean sheet) and seem to have lost our presence in midfield. I've said after both the last 2 matches that I certainly felt both teams were playing within themselves (probably because of the lack of threat we posed), so I do think our performances should be viewed in that context.

I do happen to think that Balotelli did well again on Saturday and am glad to see Can getting a couple of starts, but I didn't see a whole lot else to cheer me up. It's one of those things; in Rodgers' first season we had some poor results, but you could see the team was progressing; taking last season out of the picture, I think we currently look worse as a unit than the 2012-13 season.

My ambitions for this season have always been quite grounded: to get 4th again and put in a respectable performance in the CL - and by that I thought at least getting out of our group. Now we're only 4 points off 4th (which seems incredible considering how we've performed), so that's still in reach if we can find some form. As for the CL, well hopefully Sturridge will be fit to get us some goals, but right now I can't see us getting the 2 wins we need.

With all that said, I'd love to read some positivity about the team (that's not a sarcastic comment). What did you see to give you hope?

It's incredibly disappointing and frustrating news for the player, the club and the supporters. If the other strikers were contributing then it wouldn't feel like such a kick in the teeth, but they aren't.

This season is a real test for Rodgers, if nothing else.

One that so far he's failing miserably. He persists on playing a system that just isn't working and has stopled doing what worked so well last year. Last year, watching us play was so exciting, but this season it's just drab and so so boring.

He isn't persisting with a new system, though. So far this season we have played the following formations: 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2-diamond, 4-3-3, 4-1-4-1. Systemically, we've been as we were last season - it's the shape that has changed, and when you look at what happened at West Ham away, for example, there's a lot of good reasons for the change in shape. The midfield isn't working, largely due to teams having adjusted their tactics to target Gerrard and the space around him.

This feels similar to my concerns early on last season - we're not compact enough; too easy to play through, etc. That hasn't been the case in the last two games so I'm hoping he's found the balance.

You know the feeling you have when you've dreamed you won the lottery/learned how to fly/shagged Jennifer Lawrence/played for Liverpool and scored on your debut, and woke up believing it had happened for a few seconds? Then you realise it was a dream and you have to go to work? That's how I feel about LFC right now.

So, the BBC have got a little retrospective about last season at Palace. Wonder how many times it will be mentioned tomorrow? Too many, I'm sure.

It's odd thinking back to that night, though, what a world away it feels. I was surprisingly not too despondent after the game, because I felt the title had been lost against Chelsea. Still disappointing to not have made City earn work for those last 6 points, though.

Anybody think we might get a result tomorrow?

I'm very interested to see the team Rodgers picks for today. I think Lambert deserves to get a chance but at the same time he'll need someone to get about with him, so do they go with Balotelli or Borini with him?

Balotelli has only just recovered from an injury so Rodgers might not risk him, I hope ;)
