I can't imagine Gerrard going to a Premier League team. I can see him in the States though. Maybe in NY.

I'd have said the same about Lampard. It's an unlikely scenario but hand on heart, I wouldn't begrudge him a move to someone like City. Chelsea would be a different matter.

So with the line up as it is there will be a continuation of the lone striking role for Balotelli, thats a bit worrying considering he has been crap at it so far. Lets hope the goal in mid week has lifted him to the next level of performance that is required.

Savage is a clueless pundit, he just berated Balotelli for not getting into the box when his starting position has been predominantly wide right at the beginning of this match.

Looks like an interesting system they're playing today. The front three seem to be changing up lots and the defence is also fluid. Gerrard has also got forward more than I have seen recently even in the first few minutes.

There's one for the highlight reel of the season, Migs caught the ball from a corner.

On a positive note, Balotelli's confidence looks up on the rare occasions he's gotten the ball, beaten players , a lovely touch or two etc.

This is awful. Why do we keep only playing one up in the league? It's been proven we don't work with it. It's tactical idiocy.

I think one up is perfectly feasible if you use the extra numbers you have behind to get forward and look at breaking into space at pace.

The problem is there is no pace, Gerrard has been more advanced today but he isn't breaking lines. Henderson is also playing further forward but isn't getting forward enough. Sterling hasn't once tried to beat his fullback when he has had the ball, surely he can beat Dummet for pace.

Coutinho hasn't got on the ball enough but when he has the passing hasn't been anything special. Allen looks to be off the pace, which is a big problem because he is playing deep and should be the player to set the pace with quick passing from the back. Allen is doing ok breaking up play but can't do anything to start attacks at the moment.

All in all the game is far too slow and the players need to up the pace.

Unsurprising. Most we can hope for out of this now is a 1-1 draw. We've done NOTHING all game to suggest we'll get it though.

The way we're playing football at the moment is dire too. What happened to the quick flowing play of last season? Everything this season has been so boring, left, left, right, back, back, forward, left, back, right, left...

The main problem is the amount of space between the defence and attack. It forces us to play it long too often and it leaves the defence unprotected. It's fucking stupid and I've no idea why he's gone back to setting up in this way. History repeating itself in so many ways.

Why only give Lambert so few minutes, too? Who really thinks he's going to have enough time to affect the game?

I think Balotelli is becoming too much of a scapegoat, too, when the rest of the team is so poor at the moment.

Of course he is. It's not his fault our defence is poor and the supply to him is non existant.

Honestly think BR needs to pull his socks up, stop being stubborn and change something or the owners are going to start asking serious questions.

Right now BR and the team are proving everyone right that we've done what Spus did last season. I thought these player he brought in were meant to strengthen the squad? Not seeing that at all.

So what will the Rodgers's list of excuses be today? We worked hard? We looked solid? We lacked a wee bit of quality in the final third?

Sigh. Really poor, we seem to have no idea on shape, tempo, best 11...hard to see where something positive is coming from in the next few games.

I know its OTT but I'm getting pretty bored of watching this bunch of twats go out and perform worse and worse each game and absolutely nothing like we did last year. Today they didn't even seem to care. Coutinho and Sterling on the pitch and we hardly had any movement at all. Sterling may well have not bothered to turn up, for all the use he was.

We are so far removed from last years side its unreal. As I said, no movement, no pace, not decisive, lacking ideas, but luckily we do still have those shit defensive qualities as Moreno showed. We're not even fun to watch. Of the players that were bought, at this moment Lovren looks like a complete waste of money, Balotelli likewise and Moreno is dodgy at best. Manquillo has performed well, but na, put Johnson back in, the guy who is the most indecisive player I've ever seen. He doesn't even seem to want to take people on anymore, his one good trait.

Don't get me wrong, Newcastle were no better than us but if we are going to make the same mistakes over and over again we will be punished and have been.

Rodgers is being tested this year with us playing in the Champions league and so far he is failing. Previously I've said any side would struggle without Suarez and Sturridge and I still believe that, but we no longer look like we give a fuck and that's inexcusable.

Yep Balotelli was much better, did some good defensive work, looked to take on his man, tried to make something happen. Still got criticised by Savage, though, which is always going to be the angle until he starts scoring which doesn't help. Gerrard also had a good game and Mignolet caught a couple of balls and made a really good save (also go nowhere near a few, too...)

Other than that, though, it was terrible. After bigging-up Phil over the last few games (where he has been excellent), he was totally anonymous today. Allen did nothing offensively and, considering people always say one of his assets is dictating the tempo, well, that was one of the most lethargic performances this season. Not all his fault, of course, but he didn't really have any influence. Would have preferred to have Can sitting deep and staying there, letting others create something. Moreno had a poor game, I've said before that defensively he's not that great and today he was caught out of position/lacked awareness too many times. As always, the caveat is that he's young and learning, but that doesn't really help when we've lost because of his mistake.

None of the new signings have really done anything, truth be told. I'm still yet to be impressed by Lovren in particular, I don't see him as a leader or a presence in that defence. Lallana has shown some creativity, but as has been noted, his positional-discipline can cause issues - though whether we would have looked any worse from bringing him on today I doubt.

It's just all so frustrating. This is just poor on every level, nothing is working at the moment.

Allen helped keep the shape really well today, so it was baffling to see him come off for a striker, particularly as the problem wasn't that Balotelli wasn't taking his chances, it's that nothing was being created for him. Once that happened, Moreno lacked cover and was shown up yet again. I'd much rather have seen Lallana on for Sterling or Coutinho at that point.

I called it.

Shocking that Rodgers didn't give Borini a start today, after he did well mid-week. Balotelli has been crying out for some help up top for weeks.

Can see Newcastle scoring if we don't take the game to them a bit more.

Inexcusable performance and no surprise to see a defensive mistake lead to the goal.
