First mistake Tremmel has made all night and that should be the winner. Unlucky for Swansea their gameplan almost worked but like the QPR game Liverpool have somehow managed to get a win from a performance that probably didn't deserve it.

I think Swansea will probably be ok with that. Once the RC was shown, the best they could have hoped for would have been penalties after another 30 mins. May as well get the game done and dusted and not knacker their team any more than they need to.

It initially looked two footed at full speed to me but yeah, not good.

And lol, another fine massively undeserved victory for us.

Yeah, our indifferent form continues. Phil needs to be starting games again, he looks to have found his form again, but other than that it's hard to say we were particularly good. A bit like Hull at the weekend, if Swansea had shown a bit more belief and intent they could have caused us more problems,.

Still, good to win. Let's hope for a favourable home next round - as according to the commentator at the start, we hadn't beaten a Premier League team in the league cup since 2006 prior to that!

As a swansea fan that's how I looked at it. Still gutted but thats football...and terrible refs. We seem to have had a few of them lately.

I like Monk, but I hope he doesn't go off on one for the refs again. He must already have a ban/fine coming up for the Moses comments.

Missed the game as I had gone out. Saw it was 1 - 0 at about 80 minutes and was relieved to see we had only conceded one. Checked the scores about half an hour later to see the FT result. Pleasantly surprised.

From reading the comments in hear I assume it was a poor performance with a lucky/underserved victory?

How did Borini do? Saw a gif of the Mario goal which involved a nice assist from Fabio.

How was Jones in goal? Do enough to scare Mignolet into improving?

I thought we were in control most of the game but we just didn't do anything with it, we seem to knock it left and right and back into the defence way too much. When we get on the break it was only Coutinho, Balotelli and Lallana (when they came on) that seemed to have any urgency about them, everyone else was very static. Great finish to the game though, I was happy to be out of Anfield at full time as apposed to the worlds longest shootout like last time.

As Stigweard says, we had most of the ball bit never really looked dangerous until the substitutions. Borini was ok, ran around d a lot, got the assist and had a few shots. Jones is never going to be good enough, even considering Mignolet's dodgy form.

For most of the game we just looked very ordinary and as I say, if Swansea had been a bit braver then it could have been a different result.

As I just posted in the football thread, Bournemouth sandwiched between Man U and Arsenal fixtures and the Tuesday before United Basel visit Anfield for what could well be the deciding match to finish second in the group.

That looks like a horrible set of fixtures, no use complaining though because its better than not having any competitions other than the league to take part in.

edit : And to make matters worse Liverpool travel to Newcastle Saturday morning to face a team who have won 3 on the bounce. I can see a high scoring loss coming Liverpool's way this weekend.

Just saw the cup game highlights (all 4 minutes of them). Were the Liverpool fans booing Shelvey? Unless he had done something during the game then that's not right.

I didn't notice any boos, in fact when he came up to take corners the crowd clapped him.

Really?! I think it will be a difficult game but a high scoring loss against Newcastle is a bit of a left field prediction IMO.

Going by Rodger's comments in the Echo I presume we are going back to the diamond this weekend with Balotelli and Borini up front. I think it's the right choice if so.

Gerrard says he's playing on after this season, even if he can't agree a deal with Liverpool. You'd think that deal will happen but I wouldn't begrudge him an end of career stint at Man City, where he could genuinely have a great shot at getting that elusive last medal.
