Incredibly harsh on QPR. Even a narrow loss would have flattered us, let alone a win. Our goals were absurd - two OGs and a massive deflection so we scored about 0.5 goals ourselves at most.

There were moments in counter attack in the second half where we looked a little bit like our last season selves but otherwise awful all round, apart from maybe Mig.

Fuck me, that was mental. QPR fans must be sick as proverbials now; they deserved something from that match.

I'm pretty sure from the evidence of the last few games that we're going to give Real a whomping.

I'm sure Rodgers will talk about character, maybe blame the international break, admit we were 'a wee bit off our game' and ignore the fact that we just can't defend against set-pieces, balls into the box or long hoofs down field. The pace of Ronaldo and Bale is frightening to think about.

They deserved everything from that match. Did their keeper have a save to make? I can think of 1 tame shot that bounced slowly towards him and that's about it.

At least Sterling looked a bit more of a threat than in the previous few games, so that's something. But other than that, I'm not sure what to take from the game. What a way to steal 3 points!

Looking back, we were probably better off saying to Barcelona well do a straight swap for Suarez & Alexis, apart from maybe Lallana all the money we got hasn't done us much good and now we're stuck with that big dope up front with the backup being even worse!

Another thing is that I don't think Rodgers knows what the best team and/or shape is now. 2 seasons ago, we suffered some real rubbish results, but he was creating a way of playing that suited the players we had - the result being that when it clicked, as it started to 18 months ago, it worked brilliantly (at least offensively.)

Now, with new players brought in who don't slot into that system he's kept shuffling people around. That's particularly apparent with regards to accommodating Lallana and also giving Sterling much more freedom to move through the middle during games. Henderson is pushed further back, which doesn't help him, Gerrard has been deeper and often been marked-out of games, up top we have nobody who seems to want to score goals and we have looked shocking defensively.

There are a number of challenges - how do we get Balotelli to score and contribute to matches both now and when Sturridge returns (the second part of that might be a bit optimistic)? What is the 'best 11' in his mind, and what does that do to the shape of the team? How can we shore-up defensively and stop being so terrible at set-pieces in particular?

The hope is that we can keep in touch in all competitions as we hit January, in the belief that we might be able to address some of the issues. The fear is that we are struggling in mid-table, effectively out of the Champions League at the group stage and are short on ideas with no real hope of it getting better in the short-term.

Incidentally, I do think a poor season will see Gerrard retire.
