When Lambert has come on he's spent too much time chasing about the pitch, not playing up front. He didn't impress against Boro either but at least he was man enough to admit that. Still, I'd start him tomorrow. We can't be any worse, lets be honest.

Lambert made a real mess of that chance a few minutes ago. Otherwise WB have had the better chances and overall play I'd say.

Oh shit, scratch that, what a goal.

Are we watching the same game? West Brom have not had the better of the game at all. Liverpool certainly haven't been at their cutting best but they have had the best of the game

Well, good to get a win on the board. I thought that, outside of a good 10-15 minute spell just before and after we got the second there was some good, quick passing and movement, but other than that it was all a bit too pedestrian and easy for West Brom to defend well and break with a bit of purpose.

I really don't know how we get Balotelli actually being a functional member of the team, though. There were a couple of moments that had me shaking my head - one where we broke from (I think) a West Brom corner and Lallana ran full-pelt 50-60 yards to press Ben Foster and Balotelli wasn't even in view at all in the opposition half; and another where Sterling was breaking with pace and waiting for Mario to make any kind of movement away from his defender to give him the angle to slide the ball through but he didn't move at all and it broke down. It was absolute rubbish from somebody who clearly has ability.

At the moment, I find the fact that we've had 1 goal from a striker (Sturridge) in the league in 7 matches is a real concern.

Defensively I thought we were ok today, helped by the fact that - like Everton last week - we were never really put under that much pressure. Lovren and Skrtel still don't convince me as a solid partnership though. Sterling wasn't great today, either and his touch was poor in good positions.

Lallana had a decent game I thought, was our most creative player and has good, quick feet which allow him to link play at a high tempo. Thought Gerrard was alright too.

On paper, QPR away next week shouldn't be too bad and hopefully that can build some confidence.

Borini looks like he'll only go if a club playing at a high level wants him, and I can't think of any teams in particular that would snap him up. I therefore suspect he will be with us for the rest of this season, at least.

I know Rodgers has said that the Balotelli deal basically came down to running out of time, but I wonder why the Remy deal was pulled and whether or not he would have fitted better with how we are trying to play? I think being kind to Lambert, most of his match reports will probably reference 'putting in a shift/being whole-hearted player/giving 110%' which we all know is code for not really doing much to affect games, so he can't be relied on to bag 5-10 goals as a bit-part player.

For Sakho, that's 3 match-day squads he's not been a part of now, which can't be good. I am still staggered at how our CB situation is turning-out. That fact that Skrtel is still first-choice is disappointing, but that Sakho now doesn't even make the bench over Toure is something else. It's odd.

According to Rodgers midweek, Sakho injured a muscle in training....whether you want to believe that however?

Ah, ok. I'm just letting my wild conspiracy theories get ahead of me then.

Edit: I've never said he's being forced out though, just responding to Marco's comment about if he's moved-on in January. He's clearly not first-choice though and whether the Everton game was the start of a trend we'll see.

Let's hope that the team use the result as a springboard. I think that the formation was right today. And we'll deffo be better when Sturridge is back. I'm not going to jump on Balotelli's back. He has the ability and hopefully he'll have it coached into him how to play in our team. Allen should be back which will be another plus, I think he's a player we have undervalued and we've missed his ability to come of the bench and help us keep control of the midfield.

Our real issue is our lack of quality signings. Balotelli was a punt, did Rodgers even want him?

Look who Chelsea can attract. Fabregas and Costa. We get Balotelli and random others who won't seemingly be pulling up the turf anytime soon. Man U at least get Di Maria and Falcao. Man City already have a strong squad with top players sitting on the bench.

We're lagging behind. There's no chance of a top four finish on current form. None at all. The new Spurs, perhaps. Sell your best player, replace with a load of randoms, become rubbish?

I reckon Chelsea, Man City, Man U, Spurs, Arsenal are ahead of us now.

Unless we start to gel its going to be a pretty bleak season.

Hopefully it is just that gelling period that's needed. I'm just concerned about the signings and the tactics. They're kinda key.

What makes you say Spurs? Arsenal probably will finish above us but they are hot & cold, Man Utd have a team that would win the legue on a video game but I thought they looked dreadful yesterday, Chelsea & City yeah are miles ahead, im a negative fan but even I think youre going over the top there

United have rode their luck in both their last two games. Could have easily lost them both. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose their next couple of games. Liverpool are ahead of them, Spurs aren't playing the same ball game. 3rd or 4th is there for the taking if the form can be found.

I wouldn't go the United route ever. We never pay £££ for established stars. We have always invested in potential. Start making verdicts on the new recruits in the summer not after a handful of games
