6 points from a first 3 games of Southampton, Man c and spurs, two of which were away is a decent return. Probably the toughest start in the league based on last years league positions.

We've got 3 points from 2 games at the moment mate! You did see us against Palace last season right?

How Sterling didn't score after dribbling past most of the Spurs team in their area is beyond me.

Probably best not to talk about Mario's long range effort at the open goal either! Even BR couldn't stop himself laughing at that on the sidelines.

Still, very solid performance. Great way to bounce back after Monday.

That defence has never played together has it? Despite that we limited Spurs to one shot on target, I didnt think they did that badly.

It was a fantastic performance overall, and I felt a bit sorry for Tottenham as it was a bit like watching Liverpool a few years ago - loads of possession and passing and almost zero penetration. I know how frustrating that is to watch!

Liverpool were the opposite, we could have scored 5 or 6 and looked dangerous every time we went forward. It feels like last season didnt end :).

Moreno and Manquillo where superb. Lovren and Sakho looked shaky individually, again. As does Sktrel all too often and Kolo Toure! It's been our achilles heel for a few seasons now. I thought Lovren was the answer but (admittedly it's only been a few games) he looks the same as the other central defenders.

There was a little preview of his pace near the end of the game against City, when he linked up with Markovic, but yeah, that was pretty impressive today. Not brilliant defending by Spurs but the way he accelerated into that gap after dispossessing Townsend was what made the goal. I think a full back with genuine pace - and, you know, effort unlike certain ones on the other wing - could really give us another dimension with the amount we make use of runners from deep.

Yeah, Tottenham should have scored a couple themselves - that chance you mention was a poor finish really - the defending wasn't great. This was Sakho's first game with Lovren though so I guess I can put that down to lack of communication for now. But on another night (like at City), those mistakes get punished.

Loved the little bit of commentary on MOTD2 there, on Sterling's miss - "There aren't many in players in the world that can do that...but I can do that!"

Though BR's description in the post-match interview was even better: "He went past those players like Ricky Villa and finished like Ricky Gervais."

did you see that long ball by Spurs and Lovren & Sakho both went to head it and missed it? christ on a bike, it was a great save by Mignolet but ffs

Every game, no matter who is at the back, we do something like that.

Ah well, everything else is in place. If we can just stop our central defenders fucking up we'll be going places.

So, Victor Valdes then. I'd like to see that one come off.

Keeper got away with bouncing the ball off a Spurs player when he should have caught the ball and then later pulls off a great save from a shot-unsurprising really given Mingolet's form since he was bought.

Thought Lovern was fouled by Adebeyor with a knee in the back in the build up to Spurs 1 real good chance- Sakho should have been covering better though. And Gerrard was poor - maybe that injury he supposedly picked up hampered him? Looks a lot better with 2 up top - team looks more fluid and some of the play was superb at times.

And has anyone made the , oh Dier! joke yet. I'm sure that's worthy of a few negs...

I thought Spurs got in very easily behind Manquillo, but he was lucky enough they were awful and he was able to recover his position. Lovren and Sakho didn't look like a partnership, but then again it was their first game together. For the sitter Spurs missed at the end of the first half Lovren should have dropped off and let Sakho go challenge.

Hopefully the defence will start to work better as a unit with a few more games.

Fabio Borini is in talks with QPR and it's a permanent deal apparently.

I'd imagine Sterling will get games as an out and out forward now.

Why? I mean he might but we've got Sturridge, Balotelli and Lambert to play in the lead striker role still.

Even though Sterling could play up front I would have preferred a fourth striker in our squad.

Suppose Borini knows he is now lower down the order makes sense for him to move to play on a regular basis.
