I thought Liverpool were pretty uninspired. They got to the edge of the box at least 10 times tried to take on a player or make an eye of the needle pass and just lost the ball. If the defence has packed the box you might just need to take a shot from 20 yards. At least make hart save it as I don't think he's the best keeper in the league.

Glen jonstone (sp?). Shouldn't be a first team starter on either flank. He has his odd good game but he couldn't even make short passes to avoid losing possession last night. I see him mentioned in this thread a lot and there has to be a reason for that.

Markovic looked great and I'm glad Lambert finally got his goal, even if it was a consolation one. I still think 3rd place is doable.

Sadly it was an own goal!

Disappointing result but it didn't feel to me like we were particularly well beaten, more that their finishing was ruthless when we had the standard lapse or two at the back. We should have had at least one more goal and Sturridge's was offside by about an inch.

I called the score line but not for City to win. We created chances first half lots of corners & free kicks but nothing came from them. Sturridge needs another player up front with him to play off. With Lambert on the pitch he had someone to aim for with the Goal. Lambert should have shot for a second instead of trying a pass to Sturridge. That would have made the last 10 mins interesting.

Defensive weakness again, poor game by Lovren who should have taken charge & commanded that defence like Kompany does for City.

Moreno has some pace & shows promise. Johnson has always is past his sell by date hopefully he will be out for a while.

Need to see more of Markovic & Can & not just the dreadful dive by Can TWAT !!

Last season we would score more than we let in & I had hoped we would be the same this season but with a stronger defence. Attacking wise Lallana & Balotelli should help but BR needs to play with two strikers to help Sturridge.

Defensively the central pairing need to focus & Lovren needs to perform for the money we have spent on him & take control of that defensive line.

Spurs are going to give us a tough test but we need to win that match.

Also glad to have the forum back I was about to post a FUCK FUCK FUCK post yesterday after City had scored and I think the profanity filter crashed the forum.

Well, yes, you just outlined it!

I think what gets people's backs up is the impression that he very rarely puts in anywhere near 100%. He's simply not good enough to play as casually as he does.

I have to admit I thought we played fairly well against a very good team. We bossed periods of the game but it all came down to, yet again, bad defensive mistakes. If Moreno is fit I'd like to see him, Sakho, Lovren and Manquillo play against Spurs.

I don't think Coutinho is suited as one of the three forwards, he works far better sitting behind. In hindsight, the midfield-strikeforce formation of

------------Sturridge----------

Markovic-------------Sterling

----------Countinho-----------

---Henderson-----------------

------------------Gerrard------

(or however it's staggered) might have fared better, but I don't think Markovic was going to be risked to start a big game. Ah well.

Yeah, definitely! He looked very nifty in pre-season so I'd imagine he's going to be a really good addition for you this year.

As for the result last night; I can understand losing to City at the Etihad, fair enough... but we looked so lacklustre up front it was depressing. We spent the first 40 minutes practically owning the ball and not knowing what to do with it. Defensive mistakes were concerning too.

Hoping for a better display against Spurs. Looking forward to Mario coming in, because we obviously need him.

He might provide a bit of spark though and indirectly help make things happen. Last night was like the start of Brendan's reign in that we played some nice football without ever looking like scoring.

When City started playing a bit in the second half we started to look quite shaky at the back and I thought it wasn't great defensively from the moment City took the lead.

Its not all doom and gloom of course, City are champions for a reason, but we're going g to come against a lot of teams that will let us have the ball and we need to be better with it. Plus, Moreno generally looked decent and Markovic brought a change in tempo when he came on.

That terrible dive from Can though, deserved a second yellow. Idiot.

That's insane. It's nice that he wants to go back to his old club, but we've lost out massively, particularly as he can still do a job for us.

Still, best of luck to him. A fantastic player for us.

Surprised Arsenal aren't making more of an effort for him TBH given their much apparent requirement for a centre back, possible that Liverpool won't sell to a rival?

Also on a facetious note - he fits in with their injury requirements.

No way Liverpool would sell him to Arsenal, total non-starter.
