So, today's game then? I don't reckon a win is out of the question but it's definitely a potential grindfest. I just hope we don't switch off like we did against Soton 'cause we'll get destroyed for that.

Prediction: we win 2-1. Lovren from a corner and a counter-attack goal from Raheem. Yes!

Let's hope he's now at an age where he realises that if he is going to push on, it has to be now or never. Let's also hope he doesn't lead some of our youngsters astray (Phil, Raheem, Flanagan etc).

I see that Falcao is apparently available on loan, too. We should go for him as well, to really give us some options up front.

That was so coming. Lots of nice little play without penetration and then a sucker punch before half time.

Dominance without dominating is worthless.

Easy to say we miss Suarez, it just feels like we miss SOMEONE up front. Is Lambert dead?

Shame Balotelli can't play - we definitely need that final third spark.

Save their goal we've not done too badly really. Moreno was caught off guard, but you can understand given it's his debut. We've just looked flat up front again, as we have all summer.

Bring on Super Mario :)

I don't think we need to panic yet, there's not been many clear cut chances but we're not playing a bunch of mugs here, we're playing the league champions.

I'm more disappointed that we've conceded another goal due to a lapse in concentration, we've been excellent otherwise.

It was a controlled, rather than thrilling, first half up until the point they scored. Sturridge's shot aside (which he had to create out of nothing, really) we haven't tested Hart or created anything of note. The goal was rather poor all around really and I agree with Neville - saying it's Moreno's first game would be rather odd, as it was just poor defending and not being aware of what was around him.

I wonder if we need to change things up? Maybe sacrifice Allen after 15 minutes or so for Lambert and maybe get something from the crosses we've thrown in the box?

Well... more realistic expectations after that. Defence lapses are still there but never as clinical or confident as we were in attack last year. Some of the new boys looked good, but would really need to pick it up to get something at Spurs, considering how confident they are and how much they would want to reverse what happened last year. The fixtures really haven't been kind, hope it doesn't affect the likes of Moreno too much.

City and Chelsea do look a cut above this year, as they say.

Some good play and chances created. But not taking the chances.

Some poor defensive errors costing us big time.

All too familiar really.

On a positive note Markovic looked decent so hope to see more from him. Moreno looks promising, might have been a bit much throwing him in to a game like this. And Johnson's injury might keep him out of the team for a bit.

City were good value for that in the end without ever hitting their stride. We never really clicked in the final third and paid the price for the usual sloppy defending. I suppose it sums up the game for us that it took an own goal to get on the score sheet.

Oh well, roll on Sunday.

Balls!

Got tonked a little. After their first goal we couldn't compete. I'm not calling us the worst team like some outlets since it was away at City, one of the toughest games we'll play anyway.

Markovic looked great and I'm glad Lambert finally got his goal, even if it was a consolation one. I still think 3rd place is doable.

Clinical, that's what City were last night, plain and simple. They are a very good counter attacking side and took their chances brilliantly. Moreno's mistake for the first was punished after we'd controlled the first half but without creating much. Then, the second was quick and decisive with the third by Aguero superbly taken from a great through ball.

I'm surprisingly not that gutted by the result, partly I think it's because we didn't lose because we were shocking in defence and also because I could see promise in how we played. Moreno and Markovic both looked good without doing anything particularly brilliant and the passing overall was crisp. Uptop we looked a little blunt, but we've got Mario now and I think Lambert should of gone on a bit earlier as he certainly unsettled them.

As I said at the beginning, we lost last night because City were clinical with the few chances they had.
