It looks like hopefully the summer long pursuit of Moreno is reaching towards a conclusion. After that is sorted we need a forward ASAP. I fear we are about to go into both premiership and champions league campaigns with just Sturridge as our only reliable goal scorer. That is a huge worry for me.

Hopefully get Moreno deal done next.

See the Reus rumour mill has started back up again.

So Pepe is likely off to Bayern then. Strange move, really, as he's never going to be number 1 unless Neuer is only sticking around for 1 more season before going elsewhere.

It's a straight swap, Neuer should be arriving later this week. As Mignolet's back-up.

Definitely silly season, first in the week it was Lavezzi, then Falcao and now Cavani.

A striker is definitely required regardless of Borini's future. Any ideas as to who they should get?

Think Bony is the most likely. Unfortunately!

Reina has gone

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28711304

Sad to see him leave because even though he mastered the 'standing still and watch the ball sail into the net' I still had more confidence in our defence with him at the back than Mignolet. But if you are going to spend each summer angling for a move to Barcelona you better be damn sure they want you, now he's going to be replicating his Spain cheerleader role on the bench for Bayern Munich with the minimum amount of playing time in the cups. Or until Guardiola loses interest and the next manager has to get him off the payroll.

Indeed, this is why I said it was a strange move the other day - I meant for him. He will continue to warm the bench for good money, but he could have done that for us and waited for Barcelona to move for him in a year, perhaps. Instead, he's not going to play and is now tied-up for a bit (yeah, yeah, contracts mean nothing I know).

I would have thought that at his age he would have preferred to be playing, even if that meant a bit of a wage drop. Maybe he just wanted to move somewhere different.

Barcelona don't need (or want?) Reina.

Will miss him even if he's been a bit poor since Rafa went.

Think Mignolet did a decent job for us last season but lacked that confidence needed to control the defence and his area. Hopefully he'll be more confident in that area this season now he's had one with us.

One thing I did notice quite a bit was his long passing wasn't that great, I know long balls from the keeper wasn't our style but when he did it rarely worked well. Think that was one thing Reina was/is good at.

Surely we'll be looking for another keeper now? Only have Jones as backup and, fantastic hair aside, he's probably not good enough. Sure there must be some of those keepers who impressed during the World Cup available... I can't remember any off the top of my head though.

I don't think there was ever any chance of him staying here. He was on too much money and he'd have just been repeatedly loaned out until his contract expired. I think it's a minor miracle that he's been sold, frankly. No too many clubs can afford to pay a reserve keeper 100k+. Obviously he's still good enough to start for a CL club, but then which of them would have stumped up that sort of wage for him? I think people underestimate the pull of a player's last big contract. He probably thinks he'll still have time to be important somewhere (Villareal, Atletico?) after this contract is done.

I don't understand why we haven't moved for Forster from Celtic, he'd be a great 2nd keeper. Obviously he'd be looking for a team where he'd get first team more but with the right personal terms agreed and the chnace to play the cups and maybe some CL you never know.

Yeah, whilst Mignolet is still young and makes rash decisions in the area so he doesn't have that presence that top keepers have - but he's young enough to learn.

His distribution is generally awful though. I wonder how many times he kicked it straight out for a throw last season? Too many.

Yeah, I totally get the business decision by the club, but again, I'm just surprised he's jumped ship to somewhere he won't play.

If Bayern hadn't shown any interest I agree that he would have been on continual loan until walking away on a free, but he would still have got his wages and likely gone to a club that would play him. I'm surprised Rafa didn't make a move, to be honest - did he not have a good loan at Napoli last season? It wouldn't have prevented him for awaiting a contract back in Spain and he would have still been fresh through playing.

As you can tell, I'm clearly having difficulty with this arrangement.

Oh well.

So yeah, a replacement for Jones has been needed for a few years now, he's not good enough.

Because £10m.

Is that really a lot if you want 2 quality keepers? Might also make Mignolet uo his game. Ideally someone like Arsenal got in Ospina for £3m would have been great and I suspect someone like Forster would have wanted 1st team football anyway.

Genuine question, who's out there that's available for cheap that's a decent 2nd keeper? I'm not too clued up keeps outside of the regular starters we see weekly.

There's fuck all point in having an expensive back up keeper, you can't rotate the position because it makes them second guess their decision making and it's rare that a keeper is injured. Plus why would Forster come and sit on our bench when he could play every week in the league and show what he can do?

Twice we tried this, with James and Friedel and Dudek and Kirkland. Both times they ended up being awful experiments.

I think he did well at Napoli and they were interested in bringing him back - I believe there was talk of him going back on loan, wasn't there? The problem was the wages. I guess he had to choose between sacrificing the contract or playing time.

Anyway, I'm really hoping something promising pops up soon regarding a forward. The collapse of the Remy transfer has really taken the shine off the summer so far. I'm aware that's a bit daft because we've been very active in the window so far. It's just frustrating that there's such a glaring hole in the squad and there doesn't seem to be too many options to address it.

Moreno would be a good start. Back up keeper... dunno, to be honest I would have preferred Mignolet to be Reina's backup but now he's gone, not sure we will bring anyone in.

The striker situation worries me most. Sturridge needs help, and Lambert ain't going to be good enough to do it regularly. Here's the thing; the Falcaos, Cavanis, Reuses etc might be being labelled 'unrealistic', but we need someone exciting and world class to replace ol' toothy. We had enough financial clout to sign Suarez to a new mega wage contract reasonably recently, we have a shed load of money from his sale and we have Champions League football - if ever there was a time for us to make a marquee signing, now is it.

We can't really fully replace Suarez, but we need to get someone who comes reasonably close. Whoever that is won't be cheap. If we don't get anyone in, by the time we roll around to next summer I highly doubt we will have that Champions League carrot to dangle in front of potential signings once again.

I think it was pretty much a 2nd string Dortmund side in the 1st half wasn't it? The first teamers came on for the 2nd half. Although I thought we played better then anyway...

Johnson on his way? He took his time to shake the hands of quite a few teammates and applauded the Kop when he went off.

Nah, think he was just celebrating a clean sheet...

Manquillo looked decent, Sterling sharp and Coutinho was wonderful at times. Know it's only pre-season but the movement going forward was really impressive at times.
