The guy has shown what an utter cunt he is, so I don't think anyone is sad to see him go.. especially at such a high price. More concerned with how we're gonna actually spend the cash, given our relatively quiet moves in that direction.

Why is he an "utter cunt"? Because he doesn't want to stay at a club he only joined last summer? When will football fans learn? It's a job. It might be your dream to play for Southampton but half your team probably didn't know the club existed until being approached to sign for you.

In the vast majority of cases, the transfer market is like a food chain. I don't understand how you can be outraged at Lovren's behaviour.

As a Saints fan I don't hold it against him, he's used to European football with Lyon too I guess and it's not like he's been here long, with a manager gone who signed him. Schneiderlin will hurt though if he goes.

Saying his head was already turned and refusing to play for them is pretty classless tbh.

Whilst I do think that wasn't well-handled by him (and said so in this thread at the time), how many people join other jobs for more money/better prospects? It's hardly unique to football, is it (just look in the job status thread, for example). With him potentially coming in, I wonder if Rodgers is thinking of playing 3 at the back?

In other news, there's a rumour that the deal for Origi might have hit a hitch.

Exactly.

Him wanting to leave is fair enough and I wouldn't want players to be forced to stay, but saying shit like that shows his class. Deal with it behind the scenes, but coming out into the public arena and showing such disrespect to the club and fans is an act of a cunt.

Lambert and shaw were good examples of how to leave with respect. Lallana and lovren are the reverse.

Didn't Southampton offer Lambert to Liverpool instead of them coming in with an offer?

Still £12m profit after only a year at the club isn't bad, it shows how great the Southampton scouting network is. It's just a shame to see such a promising team dismantled after only one season full season together.

Well, I'd say in both instances of perceived cuntishness that you've mentioned, the club had forced the player's hands. Lovren's said he put a transfer request in and it was ignored. On top of that the bid came in and nobody told him about it. I highly doubt you'd give a shiny shite about respecting your employers if they were treating you like that. I certainly wouldn't.

It's nothing new with footballers and you can't really blame them. If Lovren did his ACL tomorrow and then was shit after coming back, I doubt you'd be saying the club should show him loyalty by playing him through poor form or renewing his contract based on past performances.

I'm pretty sure you know nothing of the sort. It sounds like a case of the bigger club somehow expecting other clubs to just sell them their best players without a fight and woe betide them not wanting to 'tow the line' and bend over.

The 'bid came in and nobody told him about it' is nothing more than an excuse to justify his subsequent actions. Everyone knew about the offer apparently, because it was all over the press long before he ever used that reasoning.

The talk about what if he had a career threatening injury is silly, because if he did that I'm pretty sure he'd have his contract honoured at the terms that were set out when signed and if the club tried to just throw that away there would be court action etc.

I'm pretty sure the club didn't force the club captain Lallana to sign a LFC shirt when away on England duty and to proclaim he hoped he would be a LFC player soon too. Not to mention then refusing to play for the club again in order to force the move. Or then force him to subsequently declare "Deep down, I was thinking to myself: hopefully one day I'll be able to play in that team". This was our club captain FFS, it's massively disrespectful to say that.

Anyway, what is done it done. I hope SRL scores you a hat full of goals and that Lallana has as much impact has his facial hair would in a beard growing competition.

:)

It actually seems more of a case of the smaller club getting bent out of joint because a player wants to leave. It's not like you're getting mugged; you're getting good money for these players.

My point about the hypothetical injury is fans demand loyalty but don't actually show any back in return. You're loyal to the club but only loyal to the player while he can offer something. If somebody better comes along and yesterday's darling finds himself on the bench, that's tough for him. You want what's best for the club but it's unreasonable to expect the player to want anything other than what's best for him.

I guess we just see things differently. I was in here wondering what everyone else was smoking when they were crying about Suarez's behaviour last season, too. I just find it really hard to be outraged at players being ambitious, greedy or both.

I mean, if they had run their contracts down and forced the club to sell them on the cheap I'd be with you. But that's about the only thing a player could do to fuck me off these days. And even then I'd blame the club more.
