You gotta love transfer rumours for their sheer comical genius....apparently we are now after spending £100m on Pogba and Vidal

I can see Lucas, Reina and Borini leaving so we still need a back up keeper (Jones is terrible), one or two strikers, a left back and a centre back. I'm also not sure that Can at his age should be the cover for Gerrard.

That would be decent enough, he hasn't showed any signs of being a player who will contribute enough to the team.

Defensive players are the priority right now, but if Borini does go then another striker is a must alongside Sturridge and Lambert.

If Rodgers reverts to a 433 then it's all about the quality of the wide two alongside Sturridge.

Gerrard, Can and Henderson through the middle?

I'm definitely concerned about the defence more than anything else.

Loads of reports that Remy has all but signed for us.

I'm not sure on Borini. He looked good at Sunderland and I felt he could do a decent job for us, but I'm not surprised to hear he's leaving. We still need someone else up top though.

Would 3 strikers not be enough in a 433 system that Rodgers tends to prefer? With those 3 strikers all vying for the single spot through the middle.

Probably, but I'm worried that too much reliance will be put on Sturridge.

What do people actually think of Remy? If Sturridge got injured, would he be good enough?

I'm interested in opinions on him, too. I don't really know much about him other than a decent loan spell at Newcastle but hardly pulled-up trees at QPR.

I think the best bet would be to choose a "safe" striker - Remy fits the bill, for me - and then strengthen other areas. We all know we need defenders, but I'd argue that the wings are just as important, particularly if we're not bringing in a striker that can slot straight into the gaping chasm Suarez will be leaving behind him.

I'd hope that Aspas and Borini (contrary I know) will be moved on and a striker brought in to replace them. Then at least one but preferably two for the wings. Also, I really like the look of Origi and think he'd be a good fit for our style.

It's all happening. :quote:

I've been hoping we'd go for Remy since last summer. He's very much a like-for-like alternative to Sturridge. He's very fast, can play across the entire front line, and is a quality finisher. £8m is a bargain. Bringing him in essentially means we're covered when Sturridge picks up the inevitable soft tissue injury. I think this is the absolute best signing we could have made to cover striker. He's really good, and he's really similar to Sturridge - not just in terms of syle, but also quality. Also, he offers versatility: since coming to England he's mainly been used as a striker but also has played from the left for Newcastle, and from the right for QPR. I don't think he'll start too many games there for us, but he can if required.

I don't think there will be any more strikers brought in, nor do I think we'll need any.

I think we need one more. Sturridge, Lambert and Remy are good options but with the Champions League adding more midweek games, it'd be nice not to rely overly on Sterling or push Ibe in too much. I don't want to consider Markovic as a striker this season, his aim to should settling in and developing an understanding with our pattern of play - I'd be happy with him just laying on goals this year. One more first team striker and I think our attack is pretty much where I'd want it to be.

Then we can focus on defence *cough*

Remy for £8m would be a great bit of business. As would getting £14m for Borini - I will be sad to see him go mind.

Ibe has looked good in pre-season so hope we keep him instead of loaning him out again. And he continues to improve and get played - like Sterling from last season.

A new fullback and another player that can play across the front three is still needed as a minimum.

Remy should be a good signing if we can get him to lower his wage demands.

James Milner?

Not a bad midfielder would be a good squad player.

£20 mil for Lovren though is quite a bit

I'm liking that BR is getting a lot of deals done.

I'd also want another wide player, yeah. I just think 3 strikers is plenty assuming we're switching back to 4-3-3. Saying that, I won't moan if we don't get one because we'd still have 4-5 solid options for the wings as it is.

So by the end of the week, it looks like we could have:

Lambert

Lallana

Can

Markovic

Remy

Lovren

Where else do we need to strengthen? Definitely left back next, then probably back-up goalkeeper, another attacker and possibly a goalscoring centre midfielder.

Whatever happens, our bench will be a lot stronger this season!

Osvaldo? He's a current saints player, so the primary qualifying attribute is met.

16 to 20+ million for Lovren is a good deal for us. He cost 8m a season ago. Shame he forced the move like a Lallana cunt, but that's football.

I'd be concerned that you are buying a lot of mid quality players though. Not really improving your squad in quality sense.

We had a really strong first 11 last season - most of the players we've bought already are to bulk out the squad for Europe, the majority of which we had in mind before Suarez left. So in that sense we've improved a great deal.

For the first 11, we still desperately need a quality left back, with probably a Sanchez-esque player coming in to play with Sturridge and Sterling in a front 3.

So our first 11 might end up like:

---------------Mignolet

Johnson--Lovren--Sakho--New LB

--------------Gerrard

------Henderson--Lallana

----Sterling--Sturridge--New Attacker

And our second 11:

---------------New GK

Flanagan--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique

-----------------Can

------------Allen--Coutinho

----Markovic--Lambert--Remy

I think that's a pretty strong squad (if all those signings come off...)

Lovren was outstanding at the start of the season but kind of went off the boil in the middle and towards the end, still a good player and he's young so time to learn. Llallana worked well for us because we pretty much built the team around him, although I'm not sure if he ever played the full 90 mins, seemed to me (through beer induced goggles) to always be subbed around the 70 min mark. His shooting is woefull though. Oh and he has a dodgy knee.

Lambert? Was really blowing out of his arse at some points through the season. Always a threat though and usefull for you lot on the bench. Doubt he would have been our main striker for the whole season though.
