Aspas has been confirmed as a season long loan signing for Sevilla with an option to buy.

Shame as he looked promising at the start but just couldn't get himself into the team ahead of Suarez and Sturridge (who could?)

What? He never looked promising. He was okay on his debut against Stoke and for 45 minutes in his next game at Villa, but then never looked good again.

Is that not promising at the start then? :blah:

He also had an excellent pre-season, as meaningless as that can be.

Not in the same league imo but will do a job. It depends if Rodgers wants sturridge as a lone striker or is looking for someone to partner him in attack. We are one striker short up front now aspas has left. Whether we are looking for a starter or someone who can be rotated in will determine the quality of player we should be looking for

that is what I was referring to. He had a great pre season and first few games and then just faded

Cavani wants a move to the Premiership aparantly. Would he be a good enough replacement for Suarez?

Completely different type of player. Also isn't he on silly money at PSG? I doubt many clubs would be willing to match his wage demands, unless he's willing to take a massive pay-cut.

Hmm, I think that's being generous still, but fair enough.

Anyway, what do we know about Markovic? Good signing? Is he a proper classical 'hug the touchline' winger? Is he adaptable playing across the top of the pitch? I admit to knowing nothing about him.

I've only seen Markovic play twice. My Benfica supporting mate is gutted to be losing him, though; reckons he's going to be one of the best around given time. I've also heard he can play on either wing or off-the-front. Oh, and he's rapid.

Rodgers does very much like a quick player with width. Hopefully the fact your Benfica supporting mate is gutted means the club have got someone who can become a success.

Also, the manager has a decent track record developing younger players, so I'm sure Markovic will progress. Its great when you can have confidence in the club to take youngsters and help them to improve. I appreciate that more than purchasing super stars for massive money.

He's almost a bit Wenger-like, isn't he? Likes pace up front, likes to bring youth through, doesn't necessarily spend on out-and-out superstars (though maybe he's still got one of those lined-up ;))...In fact, I can see Arsenal and us not playing too dissimilar styles this season.

I was saying that the other day, elsewhere, when the Sanchez signing went through. Once Suarez has gone, you've got a (slightly) more mobile striker but apart from that it's a very similar set up and if he didn't want to join one for football-style reasons he couldn't join the other. Rodgers is a bit more experimental, but I suspect that is just a different way of saying he's younger. Spurs with £100m to spend was always going to be a bit scruffy because no-one really knew what style of football they were going to be playing, but Liverpool with £64m is much more useful. It's obviously going to be a struggle replacing him, but at least you know what the aim is.

I still believe the defenders we have are more than capable, sadly the way we set up last season offered them so little protection they were bound to look terrible. I say sadly, last season was hilariously brilliant at times

That said, i'm not 100% about Enrique anymore, Flannagan and Johnson can certainly fight for the right back spot (and excel in different areas of the game), we need the same on the left. I hope Martin Kelly has an injury free time and becomes as good as we all hoped too.

I thought Moreno is still on. Ayre flew to Sevilla earlier in the week and I doubt he flew there to simply sort out the Aspas loan.

Probably no need to strenghtem midfield now. I fully expect Ibe to break into the first team this season and would like him to be given some opportunites, with Suso also back in the squad we are covered. I'd say that a back up to Sturridge may be required (who knows whats happening to Borini, we may be down another striker) and a good cover for goal.

I know it's been mentioned before but what's the opinion on Sturridge as the main striker with Sterling playing in behind him?

Obviously another striker is required but as Sterling has played the position last season to good effect and given his natural position as a winger could help the fluidity. Liquid pace all over the front line...

Tried to get tickets today. Spend over and hour in the queue and then the LFC servers crashed. All sold out by time I got back on :(

It's really annoying because you have to pay to be a memeber just to even try get tickets. Probably have to see what's available closer to the games.
