Firstly, that was a fabulous move for the equaliser.

We’ve entered our own banter years of late era Wenger at Arsenal. We even keep getting knocked  by the same side in the Champions League like they always did with Bayern.

There is certainly a lot more laughing at the quality of play these days, yeah. I'd like to think we won't drop that far, but who knows...

Yeah, who is that plank?

When I first flicked over I thought it sounded like Southgate, but then realised it wasn't. No idea who it is though.

It has been such a bad performance so far, attacking play has been limited to booting the ball forward and hoping something happens. I cant remember the last time we had possession this low.

However, I had to laugh that it only took 20 mins for the referees to contradict the offside rules from the earlier game - Trent being given offside despite never touching the ball, with his hands up waiting for it to go off for a throw in.

Spending £40m on a forward we didn’t need when the midfield is so bad Charlie Adam’s return would actually improve it might be the worst transfer decision made in Klopp’s era. Spaffing £350k per week on Salah instead of cashing in and giving Mane what he wanted might be the second.

Lord only knows what went on behind-the-scenes for the recruitment staff to all up and leave, but everything at the club is so disjointed. Amazing how quickly things can unravel.

I would include the Nunez transfer in that assessment, @glb. I said at the time that he didn't fit the way the team played and it hasn't been adjusted to accommodate him either. I hope both he and Gakpo turn out great - they are so young, after all - but neither were what is needed at this point. It reminds me of when my friend used to play Championship Manager and would always disproportionately buy attackers. Either way, that's £100m that hasn't been used to actually address the areas of the team that need vast improvement.

Previously I would have some faith that Klopp would turn it around, but right now I'm not so sure he can or, more importantly, he has the fire to want to. Given the talk is always about not having loads of money, I have to wonder if Gakpo was a board-level signing rather than somebody he wanted? I mean he surely recognises that the midfield - no matter who plays - hasn't worked at all this season? I do also wonder if he's lost the team in terms of buying into his philosophy because they have been off the pace all season.

Interesting times ahead.

The coaching staff also has access to all the data beyond just seeing the performances, those numbers can’t be telling them the side is working in any way shape or form. I know it’s about finding the right player, or the one that fits at the right time but they can’t be so short-sighted to have zero options?

I honestly wouldn’t blame Klopp for walking off in the summer. His recent pressers have been particularly spiky, and it’s clear there’s things going on off the pitch. He’s done wonders for us, but we’re at point where he needs five or six new faces this summer alone. The club just won’t allow that, especially not without a top four finish, the chances of which pretty much ended today.

Twitter is hilarious tonight though, you’d think we were in League Two about to go bust the way ‘fans’ are whining. It’s a shit season for sure, but the lack of perspective from many is staggering.

Does Klopp even have a history of rebuilding teams? Wasn't a lot of his Dortmund success largely the same players, just replacing those that Bayern poached every season (I don't know if that's accurate)?

I said back in the 2020/21 season that I wouldn't be surprised if he decided he'd had enough, he's done wonders for the club but, as you say, the current board aren't going to spend the kind of money needed to sort this squad out. We could be saying goodbye to CL football for a little while, you feel. I think you are probably right that behind the scenes stuff is off, too. Perhaps Salah's massive contract - especially when everybody in the team could see he was pretty awful from January onwards - has caused discontent and thrown the harmony of the dressing room too.

It is all about perspective though, you're quite correct, and I've said it loads in this thread over the last year or so that it is so far down on my list of priorities in life these days that I feel rather detached from a lot of it. I still check the results and like to chat in here about it all, but I haven't watched a full Liverpool game since the CL final and outside of the World Cup I haven't watched any PL games at all (for any team) for about a year now probably. My interest in football has waned a lot (it happened to me once before back in the mid-90s) so I can't really get excited about it, good or bad.

Real Madrid are scheduled to have their annual surprisingly  comfortable win over us in February. Chelsea next which I’m not feeling confident about because they have a midfield.
