Keita and Ox are very much the archetypes that our midfield style is based on. There's a reason we waited a year for Keita, and it's a shame that injuries have hit both of them so hard.

Looking much better second half, but still not putting the knife in. A bit of a push, get it over the line, and get back to being the mentality monsters everyone fears.

We've looked good in spells, but when you're great for 20 minutes and fucking awful for 70, you're going to get done over. All credit to Brentford, they dug deep and slowed it down again when it looked like we might turn it around.

I'm not sure what Fabinho actually offers anymore. Our intensity has gone and we have a weak center.

I haven't watched the team much at all since last season, but isn't the problem that Fabinho used to have a bit more protection in front of him? A midfield containing Elliott and Thiago is never going to be the most solid and by all accounts the midfield is overrun in many matches these days.

As I've said many times before, this kind of campaign doesn't surprise me as I expected the burn-out last season.

There are lots of things for Klopp to ponder. Salah's poor form is now fast approaching a year, TAA has not had as much impact going forward and is getting caught out defensively all too often, VVD has been very average since his injury, no midfield combo seems to be able to exert any control and offensively we've lost that ability to just out score everybody (Salah and Nunez are both culpable in this respect.)

Then the elephant in the room is FSG wanting to sell. The prospect of no CL football on paper is obviously a bad thing, but I wonder if it might actually help push a sale through, because potential buyers would pay less of a premium for a club that will need some serious investment to get back to compete.

Maybe it will force us to change the way we play a little. Something needs to change that's for sure. More important than ever we strengthen the midfield to give some protection to the defence.

We just lack control in the middle of the pitch.

A couple of season's ago it was ruinous when VVD had his injury, but now I'm not even that arsed. He's been pretty rank this season, and, at 31 years old, his best years are long gone.

At least two midfielders and a centre-half needed... so which forward will the club sign next?

Yeah, I'm not sure it's necessarily a bad thing if we can keep Matip fit. As I said the other day, he's not been the same player by some way since he came back from his injury, he's certainly not the imposing presence that he once was.

He doesn't even make Garth Crooks' team of the week that much now, when he used to be in it every week! How the mighty have fallen.

Think even if Van Dijk lost a half-yard of pace after the knee injury, that pretty much cooked his goose because those bursts of speed were so crucial in how he marshalled our defence, and got the side out of trouble countless times.  Also think if the Joe Gomez that turned up against Man City could appear more regularly, that'd be grand. Gomez alongside either Konate/Matip should be a solid pairing. But as we've all said more times than Fab's been bypassed this season, the midfield offers zero protection for the back four at the minute, and none of the players in the middle are reliable enough fitness-wise to sustain any long-term form.

No great foresight to think this season will continue to be anything other than erratic. Kind of refreshing not having every game being The Must-Win Game of the Century We Dare Not LoseTM though, and still got our boy Darwin to entertain us.

Moises Kean instead of Moises Caicedo

No doubt being assaulted by Pickford has been a huge factor I thought VVD was pretty solid during the run in last year. But yeah injuries and years of just non stop effort has burned out the older core of the team and refreshing this group has been neglected for too long.

Strange that despite that group winning everything possible in the last few years I’m still disappointed that they only won the Prem  once. Not for lack of giving 110% in every game mind. A different time and a different era they’d have been untouchable every year.

It's interesting where this team would rank in all-time great teams (both Liverpool teams specifically and versus historic Man City/Utd/Arsenal 'bests' etc).

The usual benchmark is league titles (and especially those that retain a title) to be considered really great, and in that respect this team falls short. But by lots of other measures, such as entertainment, high-level play etc (not just trophies) many would probably feel it is right up there (especially when you consider the strength of the competition).

Like you, I feel a bit disappointed at the solitary PL crown in spite of all the other trinkets. I'm also not sure how I would rate them against the mighty 87-89 team, which was incredible (I was too young to appreciate the early all-conquering 80s side). Hmm.

If nothing else, the Klopp era will be spoken of for years to come.

Any trophy should be celebrated as very few teams actually get to win them. We have won everything possible in the last few years and we could even have a run at another UEFA cup next season to boot.

We have been against a team that should be unstoppable every season and not for them we'd have won 3-4 more league titles in that time, surpassing the points totals of our greatest ever sides.

But as it is we have fallen short a few times and it can hurt. But trust me, 99% of all those that mock is would love to be in our position over the last 5 or so years

I dunno, we all complain about City and PSG spending billions of (dodgy) money then complain that we're not doing the same? Doesn't sit right with me. It's not as if we haven't spent money either, I'd prefer a more "stingey" owner than being run by a corrupt regime and used to wash their blood money.
