Drogba does loads for the greater good doesn't he. Doesn't a portion of his wage to into his home town or something like that.

He's spent millions on hospitals and the like for his home town. He was also pretty much single handedly responsible for ending the civil war in the Ivory Coast. Straight after they qualified for the a World Cup in '06 he did a TV interview with his team mates. He and his team dropped to their knees as he begged the nations warring factions to sue for peace. It did the trick, too - a ceasefire was announced within months. Not always the most sympathetic of characters on a football pitch but an amazing chap in many respects.

Someone should make a movie based on his life, starting out with him as a street kid in the Ivory Coast, charting his rise to superstardom, his philanthropy and ending with the 2012 Champions League Final.

He steps up to take the decisive penalty. He scores. The crowd goes wild. It cuts to black.

I like how the story is now "Well, football changes so quickly, who knows where I'll be tomorrow!" as if City have, in any way, demonstrated that they would sell him.

I really liked the guy and think he is a fantastic player (even though his goals significantly helped prevent Liverpool winning the title). But this - this is just truly pathetic and childish. I think City are handling this well at the moment to essentially ignore it and let it play out.

I'd have him kneecapped.

Claim the insurance, cut the wage bill.

No need to do that. He's on a four year contract, which I presume will have a ridiculous value attached to the release clause. Just tell him he isn't going anywhere and he can wait 'till he is 35 and at the end of his career before you'll let him go.

4 years left? He's even more pathetic than I thought. So the big baby is upset that he can't move clubs and is trying to engineer a move. Don't sign a 5 year contract then you greedy man.

He and his agent pulled the same shit last year and signed four year contract a couple of weeks later. So I guess 3 years left strictly speaking. But still, what a dick.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-city/9971838/Yaya-Toure-signs-new-contract-for-four-more-years-at-Manchester-City-to-take-him-through-to-2017.html

“This is where I want to be,". “When I first arrived at City, every time I went to sleep I would dream about us winning something; now it is about us being the best team in whatever competition we take part in.

“I will never forget how I have been treated here by the fans, the club and the owners and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to finish my career as a Manchester City player.

“I want to continue winning titles and trophies and continue to make history. I have enjoyed all of my time here and can’t wait for the next chapter. This is an incredible club to be part of with fans that support a team to the end whatever the circumstances.”

Surely City aren't going to give Yaya another new contract, no matter how much stupid shit he pulls. He's 31 and relies on physicality to a huge degree -- when that starts to wane, it will hit him harder than most. And they have to continue making an effort to comply with the FFP stuff.

Felt monkey

Don't be daft, of course he's angling for more money, or a move. That had already been said before I commented, in Timmo's original post in fact, when the whole farce was first brought up. The particular nature of Toure's gripe demands ridicule. What I find funny is how absurd the angle Toure and his agent are taking is, and how ridiculous it makes Toure look.

Over the next few days it's going to get satirised a lot, and people aren't always going to preface their mocking with the phrase, "I know they're angling for money, but..."

You didn't really think I thought he was genuinely upset, did you? Have I struck you in the past as a complete idiot?

Hodgson is a prick. We all know how expectation and pressure affected Rooney's performance in the last a World Cup yet Roy's come out today saying that he expects great things from him and that the eyes of the World will be on him.,

Heard Ballagué on earlier saying that Yaya did the same thing at Barca after getting dropped for one Clásico. Cock!

There's a video on the BBC Sport website of the Yaya/cake incident, He's sat in a Plane with his team mates and the cabin crew walk up to him with a Man City decorated cake and they all start singing Happy Birthday. He just turns away while keeping his headphones on.

£50 million according to Sky Sports!

http://m.skysports.com/article/football//9323240

Will be sad to see him go as he is a great personality. But he had a relatively average season last year and if someone is bidding £40-50 million, we need to take it (especially with all the FFP). He's also 27 - so his value will go down every season now.

Kalas looks like a great player, so will be good to see him get more time in defence. Also Matic is a far superior defensive midfielder over Luiz.

Sagna's contract expires on the 30th June. But he shows as 'offer' rather the free transfer.

Which implies we have offered him a contract and want him to stay where as the lampard and cole ones look like they haven't been offered anything...
