"Great pen!"

No Andy, it's a fucking penalty, you total twat!

Pissing me off every time I heard "pen". It's not fucking Twitter so call it a penalty.

Despite going to penalties after 0-0, I thought it was a really good final. The only thing lacking was goals.

The stickers are the same as they ever were. Players, Teams, Stadiums (Double) and Team badge (Shiny), the ball, cup etc (shiny). You can get packs of 5 or 6 for £2 or £2.75 depending where you shop.

Both my daughters are doing it, and it has cost me about £30 so far :seanr: , not too many duplicates though, so that is at least good. :) And they give them to each other on the understanding that they will both do so. Only one so far has been a duplicate for both of them. Anyway, they'll not finish the book, I'm just using it as an excuse to drum up their interest in football and thus have more chance of monopolising the big telly during hte World Cup :)

That looks like Ted Knutson/Stats bomb table, is it?

Two things leapt out at me from that. Firstly, the shot accuracy of Walcott & Ramsey is ridiculous. I wonder whether that's a facet of 'Arsenal walking it in lol' or if they just generally should be shooting more often. Second bit was just how Suarez dropped off relatively in 2014. He got 20 in his first 15 games and 'only' 11 in his last 18 (http://www.statsbomb.com/2014/01/why-suarez-cant-keep-up-his-scoring-rate/).

Walcott usually just falls over before he gets to the shooting bit, so he doesn't get as many chances to fluff it as he could.

Suarez's form dropped off after his role in the team changed. Brendan shifted Gerrard further back, playing two box-to-box ahead of him. This remained the same no matter what he opted for up front for the rest of the season. Which was one of these two:

Suarez------Sturridge
---------Sterling

--------Sturridge
Suarez---------Sterling

The two would often be swapped about during a given game, as well.

This meant Suarez was spending a lot more time in the channels and a lot less time in the box. You'd often see him taking up position wide off-the-ball leaving one of Sterling or Sturridge as the lone vertical counter threat. Up until this change he was the focal point of attack and it was Sturridge that was working the channels (on the few occasions that they played together in the first half of the season). In the first half of the season, the closest we came to the shape we eventually settled on was the flirtation with 3-5-2. Another system that meant the front two had to push wide onto the fullbacks rather than playing closer to each other, like a traditional partnership.

Man City fined £49m and only allowed to spend £50m on transfers this summer - over the FFP.

Only £50m?? How the fudge will they cope. Breadline.

They have done though haven't they? I mean, the only reason they failed is that UEFA decided that the sponsorship from Emirates amounted to a subsidy rather than a justified payment, which just opens a massive can of worms. They took a lower figure similarly for the amount that PSG received, so said only 150 million or whatever was justified. As Emirates are owned by not just the dude who owns Man City, are they saying that they are the judges for all commercial deals now? Why can't the other Emirates board members sue UEFA for saying that they aren't serving the shareholders? Seems a bit hokey to me.

Just saw that the £49m spend limit was net not gross. Given the quality in City's squad already, is that much of a punishment for them? Sure, they may not be able to buy a Messi or a Suarez-level player, but I'm not sure the net spend limit stops them all that much. They can always sell on a Lescott or a Rodwell for £10-15m each to bump up their outgoings.

(I assume Sirloin was talking about Etihad rather than Emirates above  )

Edit: Thinking about it, £7-10m might be a more realistic price range.

Also, I wonder if the CL squad limitation is the bigger punishment...

FA Cup final day!

If Hull win, Huddlestone scores, and is named man of the match I shall quit the football thread!

I have a tenner on Hull to win 1-0 and Huddlestone scoring, I am not sure what I would want the most, the £250 or no more Dinobot ;)

Lescott is out of contract isn't he?

The wage freeze seems like a bigger handicap than the spending limit.
