They have tried to get the founder members of the league to meet each other.

Burnley v Bolton, Derby v Blackburn, Preston v Wolves and Sheffield United v Notts County are all games between teams who played on the opening weekend of league football in 1888.
Newport v Accrington is a bit of a cheat, Accrington did have a team in 1888/89, but they are not the current club. I guess the league wanted an old historic name against a club playing their first ever league fixture.
Rochdale v Hartlepool is the most played game between two teams currently in the football league (136 meetings to date) but of course, Aston Villa vs Everton is the most played league fixture in English football (196 meetings to date, which I think is almost as many times as Real Madrid played Barcelona last season) but those two clubs are now in the Premier League. It would be good if the Premier League could make that fixture happen on the opening day though. :)

We start with a trip to Norwich then. I guess it could have been worse. The fixtures seem to have been quite kind to us though, looking through them it doesn't look like we've got too many tough runs!

It should be an interesting season though, with all the management changes.

So Derek Lambezee has resigned then.

LOLcastle.

It's a strong start from Newcastle to claim the Prem Clowns award this season. Liverpool have sorted themselves out under Rodgers and QPR are relegated, so it's there for the taking.

Yeah but for us it depends if Suarez stays and does something dastardly again. My money's on him kicking a baby.

New Thread Rule Request: People stating which team they support when they say 'we'. Especially if you're posting once a month to only talk about back-room staff.

I don't have the time to go hunting through the fixtures when the only clue to your team is that you're 'Playing Southampton in a couple of weeks".

I like how the opening post begins by acknowledging the existence of Scotland, maintains the pretence for their game against England, and then neglects all future events concerning them or their teams in any way.

Sniff. It's what Alan Hansen would have wanted.

You never know, Southampton might just pop up and make tits of themselves as well! ;)

I hope it's all out of our system, what with the out of the blue sacking last season.

Never say never though, 'we' are the team that gave a debut to a Ali Dia after all so it's in our DNA ;)

When they are playing Hull or Cardiff at home, some other team will be getting dicked by Man City.

I dunno if it's better to play against teams at the top whose places are already sorted out (possibly) or against teams in and around your position where you know they'll be fighting tooth and nail.
