Games on Gold

Oh fuck aye, the ending. One of the classic terrible endings to anything, ever - I remember a tidal wave of WTFs in the thread and one poster wanting to cause someone actual harm as a result of the anger he felt after completing it. It is a dreadful story in places (the Dan Brown places), it has to be said. But apart from that, it was a pretty good game - certainly highly compelling, and some of the tombs were great fun to platform.

Hmm. I always sound as if I'm slagging it off when I describe it, but for the most part I found it very enjoyable. I just thought it suffered from terrible writing - I mean, in parts, it is truly dire. That'd be ok, but it takes itself so seriously, I think is the problem. Actually, now I come to think of it, Brotherhood was far better in that respect. But the best thing about these games is the tombs anyway, and these two (II and Brotherhood) have the best tombs, so they're probably the best ones.

Still really like the atmosphere of the first though.

ACII is my favourite in the series but I played it to death so there's no real reason for me to go back to it.

For those going into it fresh stick with it beyond what is a slow moving first hour or so.

It really is something special. So special that I've gone from not giving a shit about AC to becoming a total fan.

This Thursday will see the release of the next game given free to all Xbox Live Gold members as part of the ongoing Games with Gold offer, but currently we don't know which games will replace Assassins Creed 2 in the promotion. Until perhaps now.

As spotted by NeoGaf, Polish gaming website Xbox 360 Online Center is claiming information from "a reliable source" that August's offerings will be Capcom's Dead Rising 2 and the very popular Xbox 360 exclusive Crackdown.

I'll probably start the download of Assassin's Creed II just so I own it. I do have the disc (was under a fiver at CEX) but the first half an hour or so was utterly dreadful that I gave up as soon as I'd been set free and climbed the Duomo. I'll maybe play the full game one day since people keep saying it's good. I hope those parts at the start with Dynamo and Danny Wallace don't happen often.

Fry - you often get free offers on the dash. If you haven't already remove your card details and check back in a day or 2. I got a month for £1 and another account had a free offer on.

i've never played dead rising so i'd like to have a go on that if they bring it out, assassin's creed 2 i played the arse off it so felt no reason to even download it again or even begin to as i just know i wont go back to it ever, crackdown would be alright as it'd be free to everyone so maybe can have a few laughs on that on co-op like i used to years ago, i used to like going around collecting the lights from the lamp posts that never go out and fill a skip or just pile them up then wait until its dark and blow the pile of lights up and they just go flying everywhere it was pretty cool

It still seems like a poor offer in comparison to PSN's equivalent. These games are really old. You can buy them for very little. Perhaps MS are planning to bring the schedule up to do with the launch of the One and have titles that are not so old being released but so far we're looking at stuff that is years and years old.

Good games are good whether they're old or not.

Sure, you can buy them for very little, but then why haven't you?* If this gets more people playing Crackdown, I don't see how it's a bad thing.

yeah the psn stuff does offer you better games, but as soon as you stop paying for ps+ you can't play them anymore can you? these might be years old but if you get rid of gold you can still play them as far as i understand it.

probably the best one they've given me so far was defense grid which i'd never heard of but it's really good! or fable 3 actually that's a really good game also

But in practical terms I don't think that's really an issue. Most people will buy a year's sub and most people will probably renew that sub each year.

What if they stop the service?

With the 360 if it's the primary console you don't have to worry about anything like that at least.

That's true. I only just think most people are going to be far more excited over the prospect of new games that they can get for free and be extremely likely to still be able to play for years and years (if they sub) than the prospect of keeping very old ones they've rinsed 10 times.

I had a good old chuckle over this last week when I explained why PSN+ is so rad to COMMANDO LOL last week.

Although, to be fair PS+ has been a bit uninspiring for the last couple of months (for me personally, admittedly - I can see some people might like BF3). Even going back, I can't believe I even bothered wasting the bandwidth to download LBP2 and LBP Karting - I with they offered more demos so I could avoid shit like that even if it is "free".

I thought it ended when the one hits? again with ms wording is key im sure thats the way they said it. I agree though once youve went plus you can never go back, these are laughable as some sort of counter to the plus program.
