Les Revenants / The Returned

Yep! The woods bit was proper creepy. Do we think they are more returned then?

I'm still not clear what happened to the village that was drowned when the damn was built - did anybody die during that?

I wanted the cop (probably the best unintentional comic character in the show) to go hunting returned with a shotgun last night - they all need to go...especially that little boy.

Can they also get some new music please (its great of course, even the Portishead rip) - those three tracks are waaaaay over played at this point.

Also the police officer who Toni shot: what happened to his face? I don't remember him getting injured.

Shoulder, wasn't it? No idea why he didn't kill them both, world of pain letting them go, surely? Unless it's going to lead to a mystery woods confrontation.

No, when the cop turns up at the diner before they head to the cabin, he's got scratches all over his face.

The coffin of water must be to do with the lowering lake levels I'd have thought. But it was only in the coffin, not the grave.

I might be wrong here, but I don't think that was the policeman with scratches over his face, wasn't that the guy who owned the diner?

There were two different people with a scratched up face. The guy in the diner and one of the policemen.

I'm so confused I've stopped speculating pretty much, but really really enjoying.

Haven't all the returned people been responsible for the death of someone?

Camille - the bus cause she distracted the driver

Victor - cause he scared the bus driver

Simon - himself?

Serge - random girls

Mrs Costa - ? someone she's evil

Sex dress girl - someone probably

mmmm, needs work

Victor died (30?) years ago and was totally innocent. If he had any impact on the bus that was after he came back.

What, so he came back, caused the bus crash, then dicked around on the QT or seven years waiting for it all to kick off?

Like The Heirophant, I don't buy it.

Perhaps there are MANY VICTORS.....

Yeah, possibly it's more that they've unfinished business, I'm thinking.

Victor = he and his family murdered by Pierre and his chum

Camille = Frederic was cheating on her with Lena

Simon = was going to be a dad

Serge = murdered by his own brother (yes it was for a 'good' reason but still...)

Mrs Costa = yeah, okay, I got nothing

But now with the dozens of them Lena finds in the woods, who knows...

Or was he innocent? Maybe he accidentally helped the killers. I have no idea.

Surely the most interesting thing (and there were many!) about the last ep is right at the start, why did those guys abandon the power station because it was flooded?

WHY?

Yeah, what the heck was that all about then

The power is down for the whole town and the engineers aren't sticking around to fix it so I'm guessing they are afraid of what's about to happen. The fact they aren't trying to fix it and legging it suggests they know something big or strange is going to happen and want to be gone before it does.

In a previous episode when the engineers were asked by a policemen what they were doing near the lake (the episode when all the dead animals turned up I think) there was an uncomfortable moment before they just replied "tests." So they're obviously up to no good!

Maybe they are using the water to teleport/resurrect people and since the power has gone down the returned are all gonna get out and go on a rampage.

I missed the first 10 minutes, got confused and thought Lucy was supposed to be Mme Payet in flashback. Are they related? They had a similar look about the eyes and Mme Payet claimed to experience clairvoyance during sex like we saw with Lucy.

Why was the coffin full of water? I must know. Unless it was Victor weeing in there

Water from the lake, innit. I have no idea why, but that's my baseless hunch. The lake is clearly something to do with things coming back alive.. Maybe, somehow, Camille ened up swapping places with some water from lake. SOMEHOW.

Hmm see I didn't think anything of that.. I just presumed it was because it was going to be dangerous, potentially and that something may happen to the dam..

I love this show, though.. So intriguing. It's going to end without giving us too many answers, is what I'm afraid of.

The setting and atmosphere are very nicely done, I love the photography of it too. I can't imagine how it's going to all get wrapped up over a few more episodes. Is there a 2nd series (season?) in the offing?

Anyway, one of my theories is that everyone in the town might be dead already, without them knowing it yet themselves. I have very little to back that up, but I think it could be something along those lines. Maybe the returned (the characters that we know have died), are returning to the afterlife version of the town as they are kind of promoted up from some form of purgatory.

edit: maybe not, thinking about the couple who hung themselves. I wonder if they will turn straight back up as returnees? I really haven't thought this through properly, have I.

Whatever it is, I really want to find out, I hope things are tied up in a satisfying manner by the end of the run. Great television.
