EDF 2025

Believe me, I want to. There aren't many games where I would want to wade through Moon Runes to play, but this is high on the list. I guess I can hang in there a bit longer, but I know that if you and Angel report, as you almost inevitably will, that it is your new favourite EDF game then I will be left with no alternative.

Livestream here:

Impressions from watching the first few missions..

City looks nicer, inside areas - shopping centres etc..

Some bloom fx

Building damage WAY better. Larger buildings take several hits hits and have a damaged state (some have the sections being hit fall away) before the whole thing comes down..

Bugs fall apart when destroyed, legs and body parts separate when hit.

Plenty of useless weapons - player was trying a big missile launcher that took ages to lock on to a moving target - obv for big slow targets..

Loooong load times (PS3 ver)

Web trap spiders - reel you in with web.

Charging ants do repeated bite damage then throw you.

Awesome crazy ragdolling.. player blew himself up - ended up flying through the air for about 15 seconds crashing down through a building site, hitting every girder on the way..

Still really easy to blow yourself up as Pale Wing

Watched some of that twitch video and it basically looks like EDF2017 but with better graphics. Enemies and weapons are the same! Nothing excited me.

EDF 2017 with better graphics at the very least sounds absolutely perfect to me!

Picked my copy up at lunchtime - we have a code freeze in 2 hrs so I`ll be firing it up on the company`s biggest TV :)

Well in the first few levels you could see one new enemy already, those ant like spiders walking around on webs spun on buildings who shoot webbing at you in a straight line (plus they make a horrible noise). Plus the destruction looks better, you've got little details like bits of enemies flying all over the place when shooting them with rockets etc. Weapons sound better as well, especially in comparison to IA where the weapons really didn't sound that great at all. There's supposed to be much more enemy variety according to the Famitsu review that made an appearance plus with 4 classes all with their own weapons and online coop I'm pretty hopeful :) It's still going to be the same to some extent, I don't really want EDF to change that much but here's hoping the variety is more like EDF 2.

Here's a youtube link for the stream posted earlier:

I watched some of the video on the Twitch channel, and I am flummoxed. Why is it that only people with no clue how to play games seem to be the ones recording footage? EDF is about carnage, action, and balls out run-and gun destruction of all insect bastards that dare show their antennae on this planet.! Yet whoever was playing looked as if all they wanted was a waist-high wall to take cover behind. They did a good job of making something intense look very pedestrian.

Looking at the first 15seconds of the video posted above, weapon names are in Japanese.

Oh man, I've coped with that before, but it makes things a bit trickier haha.

FUCK IT I'M PULLING THE TRIGGER.

Well sure the whole thing about EDF is how it ramps up and becomes crazier and crazier, what you saw in that guys video was less than the first ten missions on Easy/Normal mode and he was messing about trying other classes, having a nosey at weapons etc. I'm sure we'll see (either by playing or videos) of how mad EDF can get soon enough. Sure within those missions there was a huuuuuuuuuuge spaceship in the sky shooting down laser beams :D Here's hoping they really up the ante.

Do we have any idea how english-friendly the Japanese version is? I know it's not a text-heavy game, but I'd prefer if the weapon names were at least in english!! Hehe.

It's completey in Japanese but the menus are simple enough. The only sort of problems initially I can see are maybe the option screens and setting up multiplayer games but even then it shouldn't be too bad. It just means all the weapons will have to be tried out now to find the useless ones :D At least you can tell the weapon category by the weapons the character holds on the weapon selection screen.
