:facepalm::lol:

Yeah, except it ain't exclusive. Square Enix would be mad to keep this exclusive. Like Tomb Raider they'll just make it a timed exclusive, it just needed to be at the Sony event because of December '14. #neverforget

They said it'd be coming first to the PS4, so it'll be a timed exclusive. I like Sony's language around exclusivity - it's pretty transparent and honest about the fact it's not theirs, just that they'll have it first.

Unlike the intro to Rise Of The Tomb Raider at MS, which had a bizarre EXCLUSIVE HOLIDAY 2015 voiceover before, and after the gameplay segment it jumped to an EXCLUSIVE ON XBOX ONE announcement which was so close, with such an awkward pause before the next showreel, you could have been forgiven for thinking they were talking about RotTR and not the next game.

(Jpg not showing - it's the new PS4 Media Player)

I've had a play with this, and there is still work to be done.

For music: There is already a 'USB Music Player' that pops up if you have a USB stick with mp3's on it (one of the hidden secrets of the PS4 that I didn't even know about until recently). This new Media Player does the same job and makes it redundant -- but it's still there, so that's a bit cluttered and confusing. Also, the older USB Music Player keeps the songs playing seamlessly when you switch between app and homescreen.

For pictures: it's veeeery selective. I tried a wide range of jpgs, pngs and bmps and only a small number of them worked. It might have something to do with EXIF data or summat. Also you can't zoom into hi-res pictures all the way, or zoom beyond 100% on smaller pictures.

For video: I only tried a bog-standard H.264/AAC TV episode, and it worked great.

It will find a media server, yes.

It works pretty well but unfortunately it lists tracks in alphabetical order, rather than track order so can't be used to play albums really. Well unless you're not bothered about the order of tracks I suppose. It's still a good addition and the fact that you can play music from a media server while playing a game is brilliant, Bloodborne has a completely different atmosphere when the soundtrack is "Mna Mna" instead of the usual eerie vocal stuff.

Really? Perhaps if you're a bit thick.

Right, ps4 media player time then.

And...

It provides far more information than the Xbox one, and allows me to see when recordings have been made on my PVR, with which codecs and which resolution.

It also doesn't allow me to fast forward. FFS.

What's the media player interface like?

Same as the PS3 one really just loads less options once playing a video and plays fewer of the vids on my NAS - it does see the NAS to be fair but it is not only worse than the PS3 but just about any £5 stick you could use or built into smart tv app.

Half arsed would be about right for it at the moment

I suppose the base release should have been ps3 functionality, but you know how these things go. Some suit saying get this shit out the door by x time, rather than accounting for how long it'll take.

Sounds like hand waving, but you know my opinion of Sony of late. I've just got some sympathy for early releases, assuming they keep a reasonable release schedule.

Is eighteen months after launch really an early release though?

Media Player finds my Mac via the Playstation server thing I installed years ago. It doesn't seem to play as much of my content as the PS3 does yet though. Still, great to belatedly have the option on PS4 finally.

Now if only they'll release Ico, SOTC and all the Yakuza games/Mass Effects on PS4 I can finally ditch the PS3.

Any news on Yakuza 5 btw? It was promised to us a while back.

I find it bizarre that there are so many games Sony missed off their E3 presentation. Why not spend a few minutes on the stunning looking Ratchet & Clank? Why wait until a few days after their conference to mention the remakes of Beyond & Heavy rain? Even if this took up a single minute of time it would have boosted their presentation a little.

Maybe some of those will be showcased at Gamescom?

They won't have a presser at Gamescom.

They'll have one later this year in Paris. That and they have their own PSX event, so they're spreading stuff.

I would have liked to see what Bend is working on, as well as more details on the Bloodborne expansion, but those will probably be shown at these other events instead.

Heavy rain is an embarrassment of a 'game'

Ignore this nonsense. It's amazing. Not sure it needs a remaster though. Although I guess if you're coming from a 360 only existence its good.
