PlayStation 4 Console Thread

It's been quite flakey for the last day or two for me. Takes a few attempts to connect to party chat or game servers.

Anyone else had a delightful instance of their PS4 deleting a downloaded game? I've had it happen twice, once with UFC and once with Worms. I looked it up and it seems to be a fairly well known thing.

It was okay for me late last night, but it's been completely dead for the past 6-ish hours for me. Even the tips that show up on the bottom half of the screen as it's authorising are messed up. They're saying things like "msg_gk_tip_cloud_saves_header" and stuff like that.

Looks like they're having some issues with PSN at the moment. Lizard Squad seem to be taking the credit:

Discuss.

Sony were full of shit 10 years ago and didn't deliver on promises while killzone was a tech demo with the most out of date fps mechanics of the time.

Sony are full of shit today and don't deliver on promises while killzone is a tech demo with the most out of date fps mechanics since the last killzone.

The only thing that has changed in 10 years is that MS were spanking Sony and were the bright future of gaming for the masses and no one was buying the same old Sony bullshit back then and actually laughing at how out of touch they were.

MS basically turned into a giant enemy crab :(

I assume that was what boozy was meaning!?!?!?!?!

I very much enjoyed MK-1601s posts at the time. That's what I remember of this period. My first daughter was a toddler that year, and this is what my brain choose to remember? I really have made some bad decisions in my life.

Does anyone know what causes Remote Play on home wi-fi to suck major ass?

It is perfect when using the 'direct connect' feature, but only the Vita uses the direct connection - it is wi-fi only on tablets/phones as they don't support the direct connection feature. So it's a pain.

My home wi-fi is fine otherwise, the router is a Technicolor something or other (supplied by Plusnet), but I can stream 1080p HD movies happily via my home wi-fi, and don't have any other issues at all.

Remote play is basically unplayable via the wi-fi; major graphical artifacts, lag and disconnects.

It's very strange as I've mentioned this before in the past, and it is the exact opposite of seemingly the majority of people. Just wondering if there's anything I can try, router settings or otherwise?

Disconnect/reconnect both your PS4 and Vita from/to your router, making sure that you have to input the router password again. Also reboot your router for good measure. Pretty sure that will fix things.

Strange as it sounds, my home remote play never sustained a connection for more than 30 seconds while I was playing without the PS4 on the TV.

So co-op Rayman across the PS4 and the Vita? No problem. But GTA while my partner is watching Holby? No luck.

It's been a revelation since I started just unplugging the HDMI from the back of the PS4 when I wanted to remote play. No lag in sight.

No idea what the actual scientific logic of that is, but worth a try.

Thanks dude, gotta be honest...already tried all that. Makes no difference. PS4 is hard wired too.

Will try that for sure, seems a strange one!

Can anyone confirm if the latest back up and restore application backs up all data on the original disc? I can only find conflicting comments some saying yes, others saying it still wont back up game data meaning lots of downloading... Thanks.

If I put my ear to the front left side of my PS4, I hear this noise when the machine is turned off (not in Standby):

https://soundcloud.com/michael-lee-28/sunday-09-51-pm/s-DyjZ6

This is the second machine I have had that does this. Anybody else have this?

I've just started to get the exact same sound on my 1-month-old PS4. I'll describe what I'm hearing:

Before:

- In Rest Mode: Silent, nothing sounds active

- Switched off: Silent, nothing sounds active

- Unplugged: Silent, nothing sounds active

Now:

- In Rest Mode: A low buzzing activity sound, like the motor of a component is still working, it can be heard clearly up close, and felt as a faint hum/vibration through the casing.

- Switched off: A fast distorted beeping sound, heard faintly in a silent room and more clearly if you press your ear to it. Exactly like the soundcloud above.

- Unplugged: When unplugging, the sound makes warbling noises for a few seconds; then silence, nothing sounds active.

The noise may be coming from the power adaptor (which is internal rather than the Xbox's brick), because it's a similar sound that AC adaptor plugs make if you press your ear to them. I'm concerned that it means faulty hardware, since this new PS4 spent its first month NOT making these noises. (Note: I replaced the HDD with a 2TB Seagate a few weeks ago, not sure if that would be a factor.) I'll have to keep an eye on it.

woulkd really appreciate some assistance...

Bought a new HDD (The Seagate one that everyone recommends) However I've now downloaded the 2.51 firmware 4 times (once wired connection at work, the others wifi at home), tried installing on 3 different usb drives and still no luck. Initially it wouldn't see the usb drive now it sees it but constantly says the file is corrupt.

The stick is formatted to FAT32 and I've checked the structure is (PS4\UPDATE\PS4UPDATE.PUP) The file is 785MB in size. The usb ports are fine as they see other drives with media on them without issue.

Any ideas? PS Support were a joke- faulty unit, send it back plus £175 as its out of warranty.

I've swapped my ps4 for the third time and it still makes this noise!

According to PS support an 8gb memory stick is too big to use for updating firmware! Is this true? I was told anything over 2gb won't be seen by the PS4. This must be balls.

At this rate I'll just sell on the fucking Seagate and leave it be.

I done the upgrade to the Seagate 2TB drive on a 16gb usb, no problems. I upgraded my PS4 and it went smooth and easy. Done the same on my brothers and i had the problem you had above. I did solve the problem but i cant remember how exactly, sorry not much help.

I would suggest starting again and double checking you are doing everything correct, one step at a time. Reformat the USB and then redownload the update (make sure you get the correct one).

Thanks. None of it makes sense. I've checked, rechecked and tried everything I can think of but get the same result each time. I've ordered a basic 2 GB usb drive to see it I works. Unfortunately though if it doesn't Sony aren't interested unless I fork out £175...

I have also swapped out the hard disk for the Seagate one. I remember having the same issue as well.

I tried a couple of USB drives, formatted using different tools, and I also downloaded a different file.. I'm not sure the one linked to on the Sony site was the one I used. I think the link was borked at the time..

This may be a stupid question, but are you sure it's the full firmware install file, and not just the update? This tripped me up a few times when putting a new hard drive in, and the right file is not hard to find on the website.
