PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I had a quick go on Dirt 3 and BlazBlue via PS Now earlier on and I've got to say I was pretty impressed and surprised at how well it worked, all things considered. I've not played either of those games before but lag seemed very minimal on my non-fibre connection, though I suppose any lag at all is still lag so obviously it'll suit some games more than others. Those two would be on the more demanding end though, I would've thought.

The tech seems pretty much there but I don't know if I'll end up actually using it much, I suppose it'll all depend on the pricing. Potentially paying to rent out digital games you've either bought or 'own' through PS Plus on previous systems might stick in the craw a bit. Better this than no backwards compatibility at all, of course.

I've been looking forward to trying Now and on first impressions it works as smoothly as I thought it would.

My take away points

1. They need to ditch the connection test.

2. I really hope they can sort the deals out necessary to make as much of the playstation library available on it

3. Would love to see previous gen games on it AND patched for trophies

Yeah, psNOW is great (apart from the pricing). I was a bit confused when I played through Uncharted 1 because it was often pixelated. I presumed that the service couldn't handle high end games but a few months later I tried Uncharted2 and it looked and played great. Not sure why that was.

A few weeks ago me and my partner were bored and had run out of tv/games to play, went onto psNOW and found WheelOfFortune and rented that for 1 hour. We knew it would be laughably bad and it served it's purpose. It's great to have easy access to games that you would never dream of paying more than a couple of quid for. Works for reviving nostalgia too. I think in a couple of years this will be huge and that all consoles will be doing something similar.

I've been on a couple of the UK betas over the last few months and it's been surprisingly great.

One of the coolest things is the way you can sync old cloud saves using the cut-down XMB interface. I was able to play some old late-game Last of Us and Uncharted thanks to that.

However, as good as it is, I doubt it'll of be of much use until they expand it onto other formats like the Vita, or even PC/tablet.

Another positive review here.

Always wanted to play Blood Dragon, so loaded that up.

It's like I'm playing it from a disc. No noticeable lag, and the game looked and sounded great too.

Doing a connection test for every game you load up is annoying though, perhaps just one when you first load up the app would be sufficient.

Not having a PS3, I think this is a service I would use for games I missed out on...but obviously, only if it was priced reasonably.

Every time you boot it up from being fully powered off since that last update it gives you a notification advising you can change your power settings, I think they want you to keep it in standby mode forever because electricity is free in Japan presumably.

If you go into the notifications it will stop coming up. Assuming it's still showing as a 'new' one still

Yes.

Where?

I've gone into notifications but this always appears for me everytime I turn the console on under discover about power settings, I just ignore it now.

Finally got a PS4 in the Curry's sale. I immediately downloaded all the free stuff I've collected the last year from PS+ (Pixeljunk Shooter, Trine 2, Child of Light) & purchased Octodad so all that should tide me over until I get my first full game which I've planned to be Batman: Arkham Knight but I might try out GTAV instead.

I quite like the interface, but I must say I was rather put out to discover that you can no longer schedule updates & other downloads to happen at certain times. I've gotten used to using this feature on the PS3 in conjunction with my unlimited overnight data & I hope that it returns in a future update.

@gospvg sorry I misread you, thought you meant just turning trophy notifications off, didn't realise it took a photo.

Yep annoyingly every time you unlock a trophy it now takes a screenshot to fill up your hard drive. Stupid really because I don't care about trophies hopefully in a future update there will be an option to turn this off.
