PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Quick question about thumbsticks. I'm a little worried about wearing them down, so I bought some grip things from Game. They're pretty shit, frankly, and are basically useless. Are there any stick grips that are generally accepted as being pretty good?

I bought some of these, which I hated the feel of. I decided to not use any and my launch controller is still fine.

Well some good Sony customer service news, my launch day black controller touchpad stopped working. I took it apart, fixed that, but then managed to break it altogether, it would no longer hold a charge. Bear in mind i've already took apart this controller a few times to replace the worn sticks then replace them with xbox one style ones, then back again cus i didn't like the extra height on them :D The screws were knackered and even the rubber reset button got lost. I sent it back to Sony via the online form (you simply put in the controller serial number) and 10 days later they've sent me a brand new one. Nice one.

Yeah they replaced mine too after my daughter dropped it on the hearth and it stopped working. Even after it was clear I'd take it apart they still replacement it which was great.

Been using my PS-TV loads recently and it's been working an absolute treat. It no longer uses my router to establish the connection as the PS4 now gives off is own WiFi signal. Now lag what so ever now. Still a shame I can't play all my Vita games on it cause it means I have to swap the memory card back and forth.

Just to even it out - they won't even speak to me about my pad as the serial number has worn off...

You sure that wasn't you reviewing it? Sounded suspiciously like you at times...

The reviewer wasn't anywhere near grumpy enough to be me :P

And I would never say ass, unless I was talking about the equine version.

Cut your nails mate :D

If only it was that - no idea why its done that but its another very common 'fault' with the pad.

I can see the funny side about calling them to tell them my pad is falling apart in three separate ways only to be told they can't help me because my pad is falling apart in a fourth way!

OLED display at 1920 x RGB x 1080 (all 1920x1080 pixels have RGB subpixels), 100 degrees field of view at a 120hz refresh rate. "PS4 was designed to have a 120 fps output, which we haven't talked about publicly in the past", says Yoshida. Blimey.

Launched in the first half of 2016. More details & games at E3.

Well. That all sounds very impressive. Not sure about the bit where he said that although he encouraged all developers to reach 120fps, if they only hit 60fps, they can be 'rendered at 120fps for Morpheus using "reprojection" in software libraries'. Surely that would be noticable...and people would only want 120fps as a result? We are all resolution/FPS slags, after all...

Chinny reckon. I'll believe it when I see it.

Games can be at 60fps themselves, but rendered at 120fps for Morpheus using "reprojection" in software libraries

Developers are encouraged to reach 120 fps

If they're natively rendering at 60fps and then re-rendering again to achieve the 120fps effect isn't that going to introduce a crazy amount of input lag?

If they manage to look as good as The Last Of Us on PS3, then they'll be lookers.

There's a massive jump from 720p@30fps to 1080p@60fps - they did that.

1080p@120fps is another jump, particularly when you then add in double viewpoint projection.

I'm a bit concerned that - for console games - VR is one generation too soon.

It sounds like they'll use reprojection for one eye which isn't vulnerable to latency - it's very different to motion interpolation. You render one eye at 120fps - so 960x1080 and then project that image onto the scene geometry offset for the other eye. This exploits the fact that for stereo both images are almost identical.

Post that in the Morpheus thread, we've got probeater* saying the 120hz thing reads like simple frame duplication, so that they can boast "120" on a spec sheet.

*yeah, yeah. I know.

Thanks for asking my earlier questions, guys. The internet is full of contradictory info but I trust the RLLMUK folks. I have a few more, though. (sorry)

I heard you can get in-game audio through a jack on the controller. Is this of a reasonable enough quality? Might be quite useful for me.

Does the dashboard hang a lot if the net connection is a bit slow? My PS3 is always fine but I pretty much have to disconnect the 360 if the connection is weak. Just endlessly stalls between screens.
