PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I think it's right. Dev's and publishers should be taken to task for the shocking state of release software these days.

Who cares if something you have been waiting over a year for (perhaps multiple years) is a few months late. Rather that than have things not work and spoil your enjoyment of the game.

Mario Kart 8 was delayed for a good few months IIRC. Give me games of that quality and I'll gladly suck up months of delays for big name titles.

Battlefield Hardline was supposed to be out last year, but EA/Dice have held it back a few times. A good thing, in my view, if it means that we do not have something like the shambles of the BF4 release.

There will always be new games coming out. The only choice is whether we want broken titles today or working titles in a few months' time.

That's much sooner than expected! I'm really really really looking forward to this.

Metanet keep hinting that N++ is coming soon aswell. Its going to get busy this year.

You've ruined my life :(

Or my April, at least.

I am relatively sure he's right. Reading between the lines (the fact they know that they will need to add stuff after launch) suggests they've got a very strict deadline and PS+ is the only real reason for a super-strict deadline.

Possibly buried in the Destiny thread somewhere, or maybe in a thread I've missed. Anyway, some poor sod had his high level characters deleted from Destiny while remote share was active.

That's a bummer, wonder if they'll tweak menu actions or emphasize the control you're giving to someone else during remote play.

I've not used it, but I assume you're sandboxed within the game. But aye, you'd have to tweak each game if it was anything other than the PS4 thinking they're you (so no chance of a confirmation prompt).

I would assume something to the effect of "this person can do ANYTHING you can do in your game" needs to be flashed up at the start, if it isn't already.

Yup. That would deffo be worth doing. For some reason I thought it wouldn't use your saves and use a copy or the remote users save.

It is the same as handing your pad to someone sat with you just doing it online, why does it need to flash up warnings - the kid has learnt an important lesson in life.

My mate chubby wiped my gab f-zero save, the bastard - sure it was a Japanese game and he claimed to not know what he was doing but thats the danger of giving someone else control ;)

It's literally not the same though, is it? You can deck the twat deleting your saves locally, not much recourse against some random remote person. If you RDP tp a Win 8 machine, by default the power menu only gives you the ability to log off, not reboot/shutdown, etc. It's not unreasonable you might assume that the remote player has limited access. I mean, we've already made the assumption their actions are limited to within the game, right? But is that correct?

Yeah sure, the kid has learned that random people will fuck you over for lulz if they think they can get away with it, but that's hardly positive customer experience, is it?

Metro interview with Sony's Jim Ryan.. (MS interview on the way too.)

Think their interviewer was inspired by the Molyneux one as he's pretty direct on pressing him about Driveclub, the first year being poor game-wise, why they allow broken titles from big publishers through while being way more harsh on indies..

http://metro.co.uk/2015/02/23/ps4-boss-jim-ryan-2015-interview-weve-learnt-an-awful-lot-from-the-driveclub-experience-5074388/

Good to see someone asking the obvious questions and not shying away from them.

GC: But the question of quantity also concerns me. We discussed the summer games drought, which was particularly bad last year, at Gamescom and you admitted it was an issue. Have you done anything since then to avoid similar problems this year?

JR: At the end of the day, David, the decision when to release any game is down to the publisher in question.

GC: Ill take that as a no.

lol. 2015 fucking BETTER be better than 2014

GC: Would you say it is as reliable as Xbox Live?

JR: [pauses] Id say were constantly working to make it better, were introducing new features, such as Share Play do you see anything else like that elsewhere?

So no then.

Looking forward to see how he tackles MS next. MCC online launch debacle is one thing I'd be very interested in being explained.

If you remote into windows and load a game up it will prevent you deleting the save game - in that case maybe Sony should follow suit...

If, as in this scenario, you invite someone round your really don't know and then he/she distracts you and you leave them in the room with the pad i expect losing your save game is the least of your worries.

When i did it with a mate and Driveclub he ruined my win/loss ratio - the bastard!

The real 'crime' here is allowing someone underaged to play the game, where is the system on the PS4 to disallow that - maybe Sony should enforce camera use and then have access to some ID database it can match you to before allowing you to play the game - retina based so you can't swap player and fool the system ;)

I just think it would help to clarify, given even savvy folks (you and I) don't know the exact details of how this works. Doesn't need a EULA flashing up, just a few bullet points to let you know exactly what you're getting into (something you can reasonable deduce if you hand your pad to someone).

I just think its a bit of a non issue, a young kid got punked trying to cheat - I have played plenty of Destiny with strangers, wouldn't give them share play access to my game tho!

Even said screen of doom would be ignored by kids, us mature gamers would whine about another thing to click through and who would be so stupid etc!

The moral of the story is, errr -nintendo are the best

Some may ignore it, some may not. But without googling it, I literally don't know the limit of a remote user, because it surely isn't that of a local user. However we'd like to dismiss this kids experience, that situation is stupid, and poor CX.

I don't know if you have destiny but i will assume not, you can delete characters in the game - its not like most games where the saves are a file on the hdd.

So basically if you can do it in game locally you can do it in game remotely on shareplay - you could go as far as inverting controls in battlefield 4 :o

Yeah on shareplay you can't control the OS. Just in the game that's being shared.

Hit the PS button and you stop sharing. The kid shared and went afk! Numpty.

I dunno why deleting characters is permanent though. I thought all MMOs let you restore within a certain number of days. Should have that option really.

I do. Haven't tried to delete a character, although I assume, like other MMOs, it's server-side.

Anyone here actually used the game sharing thing? What does it look like when you initiate it? And is it straightforward to quickly disconnect the remote user?
