PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Battlefield 4 is still worth it IMO, especially at under £25 for the premium edition. Hardline looks great, but is a very different game to BF4. Plus, BF4 is currently a stable game. Past experience has taught me that we can not expect Hardline to be stable online until a few months after its launch.

AFAIK BF4 is still getting DLC too, so it is still being well supported over a year after launch.

If you do get it, add people from the BF4 thread to your friends list to avoid having to play on your lonesome.

You're thinking of something else, it's a side on RPG with turn-based battles. It has very nice hand-drawn visuals, and a pretty good battle system. The only down side is that the script is written in rhyme for some reason and some of the rhyming is absolutely painful. If you're not upset by clumsy poetry then I would go for it.

Edit: added video

I guess. 20 euro isn't much, then again I'm unlikely to play it for more than an hour.

It would be hard to recommend Killzone Shadow Fall if it was free and then paid you 20 euro to play it.

I loved the 2nd and 3rd games as well. Thought they where really underrated.

Guys. Guys! I'm finally on the PS4 bandwagon. Gamestop selling white ones solus for £288. (black all out of stock)

Praise the sun!

It's a good time to join, get PS+ if you do not have already & look over the last 14/15 months of released games to pick up some games.

I've enjoyed Wolfenstein New Order, Destiny & Shadow of Mordor the most over the past few months.

Ha, cheers dude. I've been subbing since ps3 days so I've already got a nice little library to have a go at.. Having said that I own a lot if the indie stuff on PC already! Ditto Mordor and Wolfenstein! Hehe. Destiny doesn't really look like my thing, sadly.

My PS4 is basically going to be a Bloodborne player and that's it, but I'm comfortable with that.

So, hard drives. Thinking of just going for 1tb, should be good enough. Anything in particular I need to look out for, or can I just get any old laptop drive?

gotta be 9.5mm high, just get the seagate STBX2000401, it's 2TB for like £60-£70 with just a bit of work (taking it out of the case).

note that the 1TB hybrid ST1000DX001 is the near enough the same price as the 2TB hdd

I thought KZ was better than its reputation would have you believe. The first level is really good – it’s an FPS with multiple objectives that you can tackle in any order, set across an open landscape that you can traverse in a variety of ways. That’s unusual and pretty successful - it worked really well once you got the mechanic of having to hack the alarm systems to stop reinforcements arriving, and it has that Halo quality of playing in a completely different way if you tackle the level from a different angle.

That said, the actual combat isn’t anywhere near as good as Halo, and it goes pretty sharply downhill in the later levels. But it felt more like a bold experiment that went a bit wrong than a play-it-safe FPS sequel; it’s incoherent and inconsistent, rather than bland. If there were another nine or so levels of the quality of the first one, then it would have been a fantastic game.

Plus, it looks absolutely flipping INCREDIBLE.

The problem with Shadowfall is the combat is largely from KZ2 (and more or less KZ3), and it's build around fighting trench-warfare, slow-progression, inch-by-inch fighting through waves of enemies from cover. And Shadowfall has all these interesting ideas early on and then it just sort of dumps them and rather than having you do the whole down-in-the-dirt war of attrition stuff from KZ2 it pushes you along a set of corridors trying to do a cover shooter when you've next to no cover.

The series pretty much peaked with 2 as far as I'm concerned.

Go for the 2TB Seagate model that SeanR mentions. It comes recommended (I have one in my PS4). I posted some videos on how to install it a few pages back.

More importantly, if you're serious about upgrading the drive, do it sooner rather than later as the biggest job is backing up and re-downloading / installing stuff. The more you have on there, the longer it will take. It took me less than half an hour to install the new drive (including getting it out of its caddy), but several hours to get everything re-installed.
