PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I've held off for reviews/impressions so be sure to report back ! The 60fps/3D angle alone almost swung me - it's my most played PS3 game after Wipeout.

It's Stardust, nothing to complain about. The various new modes are good fun, especially the boost-based one. Obviously it's very similar to the PS3 game at heart, but for the price - AYYYY!

The only thing I've found to complain about so far is the clickfest between dying and restarting, which I don't see a way around. It's quick enough but it's still a frustration - you have to select whether or not you want 3D every single time for some mad reason. I haven't tried the 3D. But it must be great.

Also making 3D the default click. Some of us can't be bothered walking over to the shelf where our 3D glasses are you know...

Is there any way to change the difficulty after the initial time it asks? I foolishly went for something other than ridiculously EASY and now can't change it.

Yeah, that must be possible because my daughter had a go and set it to easy. Can't remember how exactly but I'll have a look later. Also I had the problem of 3D being the default at first, but partway through it started remembering my last choice - again, not sure how that happened. I was looking in the preferences for a setting etc., but it just seemed to decide of its own accord. Baffling.

It is. Cheers though. I still can't find it.

Jut checked - I get the difficulty select every time I start a new game, straight after I choose Arcade. Are you sure you're not just skipping past it as part of the X-mashing marathon that is starting a game?

The 3D selector had reset to On by default, though. Really needs patching to smooth this stuff over - it trains you to just hit X repeatedly to get through the screens, but activating the 3D by mistake is a real pain.

You're.

Haven't really played enough stuff to get bored or miss the ps4 so can't really judge yet. I will miss football games but not the stuff you mention. Maybe if no man's sky ends up being good I'll get a pang then but I don't play enough of anything to care that much. I just like to keep up with what's going on.

If you're going to correct his grammar, you could at least do us all the courtesy of capitalising your proper nouns.

I'm mostly looking forward to Ultra Street Fighter IV, which I've already played. I hope they announce its release date soon otherwise I'll probably end up buying Mortal Kombat X. I want Day of the Tentacle and The Banner Saga too, since I haven't played those. Oh! Hotline Miami 2! Axiom Verge looks nice.

Starwahl, Samurai Gunn, N++ and Towerfall's Dark World update will be lovely too, for when pals exist.

I haven't really played Dark Souls yet, which kinda puts me off getting either Bloodborne or Dark Souls 2. Plus I still haven't managed to finish Ground Zeroes, due to utter incompetence.

I pop in here to see what's going on and it's just issue after issue. Most are minor but still, there's no joy. I know I had my issues and this might look like triumphalism but it's not. I'm still interested in what's going on with all the machines but every time I look at ps4 news it's more niggly issues and problems. So far I have no regrets about getting out. Again, sorry, I know this sounds pissy, it's just an observation from a recent outsiders point of view. They really need to get all this stuff ironed out very soon as it's starting to cast a bit of a shadow.

But we need you to have problems, solve them and still talk about them so that other people can enjoy their games consoles and games without any issues.

It is the Earth's way of maintaining a natural order and balance.

Ah. I was only playing Planets, no difficulty option in that. I'll never unlock them all. Can't even tell much difference between easy and normal in arcade.

Ah, that explains that. I think the aliens are less aggressive on Easy, possibly - my daughter was having a bit of trouble aiming while moving, and I thought she'd be a goner for sure when the aliens appeared. But they just sat there and let her annihilate them with the gold burner. Maybe there's a much smaller trigger area for their pursuit mode or something.

Chaps/Chapettes, I'm SO CLOSE to getting a PS4, (Bloodborne in SIX weeks!) so I'm looking around at how I can get it set up as cheaply as possible. I have a few queries for you guys though..

1. Games bought on the US PSN store - do they have restrictions on multiplayer, generally? or is it a game-by-game thing? i.e. if I get the US version of Bloodborne, do we know (or can we guess based on other games) whether or not I can play with EU players, or whether there's a weighted preference towards your account region for multiplayer?

2. Do I need to buy US PSN credit to buy US region PSN stuff? Where do people source their US credit if so? (presume I need a US region account, too?)

3. What are the perks of buying digitally? Other than preloading / playing at midnight. Does the mandatory installation of games now mean the performance differences we've seen historically (e.g. digital version of Dark Souls 2 on PS3 was much faster to load / stream than the disc version, even after installation) have gone?

Um, that's about it for now, I think! :)

1) It'll be game-dependant. Destiny is international, but previous Souls games have always had region-specific servers.

2) Yes, dunno, and you'll need an account registered to a US address.

3) If you weren't buying from the US, the only plus is you don't need the disc. That's about the only benefit with everything installing, even stuff like preloading and playing at midnight is mitigated by the fact most retailers deliver you the game a day early anyway. Of course, since you're buying US means you get the titles on a Tuesday rather than a Friday.

Souls 2 actually let you choose between 'my region' and 'international', but still that'd leave me playing with yanks most of the time. I'm thinking disc-based will be the way to go. I just love that lack of need for disc swapping. To be fair my PS4 is likely to end up a Bloodborne-only box so it could be moot! :)

Thanks for your reply too! :)

Depending on your net connection, another advantage of discs is you can uninstall / reinstall games relatively quickly when you get low on space. I really should add a bigger hard drive, and downloading Last of Us again will be a hassle. I'm hoping they'll patch in external drive support before I reach crisis point.

Not having to swap discs is nice, obviously.

Which games use regional servers? I wasn't aware that this was the case.

Am I potentially connecting to US servers when I play GTA Online because I bought it from the US Store digitally?

AFAIK GTA Online is pretty region-agnostic, seeing as I've been lumped in with US players at night and homicidal Italians in the afternoon.

I'm looking forward to Bloodborne despite having limited experience of Souls. The EGX demo was very atmospheric, and combat and movement were quite nice. :)

Other nice titles on the list - Persona 5 (which I doubt will see a Europe release for ages), Street Fighter, Hotline 2, Not a Hero, No Man's Sky...

You can use PayPal for this now, previously you'd buy credits from Amazon US and sometimes have to wait a while for the code to be generated. So it's a bit easier to get cheaper games now, definitely worth doing.

Do you need to link a US address to your PayPal account for this?
