PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Yeah. There's not even a Gran Turismo prologue equivalent to ease the pain. :D

Its a great console however just doesn't have enough games on it that I want to play for the foreseeable year or so. And I'm not waiting for the next GT again.... :D

Oh and PSN. Never thought much of the service when it was free...... :D

Anyway looking forward to keep an eye on its developments from the sideline.

:D

Yeah project cars was one I was looking forward to also. However its also out on PC. It also supports my wheel on the PC. So is No Mans Sky too. Also the Grim Fandango remake.

I've been playing it on PC for the best part of 3 years and I'm still getting it on console :P

:) Well personally couldn't justify buying the same game on two formats!! Especially when one will work much better with my setup.

I'll probably end up picking another PS4 up in the future should something like The Last Guardian get a release. Or the next Gran Turismo turns out to be unmissable. Just don't like the fact I will have to buy a new wheel to play it which will make it quite an expensive game when PS4 wont support my existing one which is perfectly adequate for me.

To name but a few.

PS4

Bloodborne

Rime

Persona 5

Uncharted

No Mans Sky

Multi

MGS

Witcher 2

FFXV

And laugh all you want, but I've got a gut feeling we'll be seeing The Last Guardian this year. Which would make me weep with joy.

Witcher 3. ;) I personally don't expect FF this year. My PS4 is mostly an indie and Netflix box at the moment, but the Wii U had a slow first year as well and followed that with two stellar years (in terms of quality at least). It's a marathon, not a sprint.

I too believe TLG will resurface this year, especially after Ueda's recent comments, but even without that it'll probably have two of the best exclusives of the year in Bloodborne and Uncharted (that Edge cover article made it sound stellar). Rime looks gorgeous, but The Tomorrow Children is another very interesting looking exclusive I think.

Is fair. I'm only getting a wheel for PS4 when and if I upgrade my PC wheel and if it works on both. I'm hoping for a GT7 tie-in wheel because they're usually pretty good.

That said, I paid for Project Cars PC 3 years ago so I'll really not notice :)

In all fairness my wheel is old :D (Its the GT4/ Driving force pro wheel they sold on GT4s release). It just works well for me. Had it what must be over 10 years now... :-\ so really can't complain!!!

I'll see what wheels are kicking around when GT7 gets released and like you get something that works across the board. A new GT game would sell me another PS4 and would also sell me a new wheel!!!! I just know my resolve will crumble when I start reading about the details. Not expecting it anytime soon though. Happy to wait though. Especially as I don't have a dusty PS4 sitting around anymore. :)

For me, this will be the year some bloody Japanese games will finally arrive, and the glut of indie games will continue. Off the top of my head, I'm most looking forward to playing:

Bloodborne, Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, Toukiden, Final Fantasy Type 0, EDF, Axiom Verge, Galax-Z, The Witness, N++, Hotline Miami 2, Titan Souls, The Tomorrow Children, Everyones Gone To The Rapture, The Talos Principle, Not a Hero, Hyper Light Drifter, Grim Fandango and maybe not in 2015: Persona 5, Y's, Wattam and Wild

If I googled stuff my list is probably double that I reckon.

I love many types of games. So the PS4 is really exciting me with releases. Jimmy covers a lot above, there is just so much variation in the next year, plus a few unannounced surprises too I reckon, especially from smaller studios like Futurlab.

I rarely look at coming releases that closely unless it's something I'm really interested in or excited about. I'm looking forward to No Man's Sky but I couldn't tell you much about Bloodborne, for example. It might well be brilliant and hopefully it will be, and I'll buy it and enjoy it, but I'll worry about it when it comes out. I've no doubt there'll be more than enough stuff on the PS4 for the rest of its life to keep me amused and happy and occasionally amazed.

In other PS4 news, I forgot to use that 10% discount, but I feel OK about that because I can pretend it was a protest against feeble reparations.

Also I went into CEX at the weekend with a couple of trade-ins, thinking I might pick up a new game - lord knows what, I hadn't planned that far ahead. But the prices were demented! Inquisition is £49! It's over a tenner cheaper brand new on Amazon. Every PS4 game except FIFA 14 was silly money, and even that was up from £4 to £8. What is up with that? AND they only had three WiiU games. So I just went home and played Destiny and pretended I was on the cover of a 70s sci-fi paperback.

Yeah CEX is getting to be a bit of a rip-off TBH. Don' t mind them making some money (they are a business after all) but not essentially giving my games to them TBH with the prices they charge for used games. If a second hand game is £10 more than new. And they offer you £7 for a trade in you are effectively giving them your game for free.... You may as well keep it, buy said game elsewhere (for £10 less) have both games and be £3 better off! :)

Rarely bother with Cex or Game these days. Buy games of the 'net and sell through Gumtree. Job done and win/win. However now moved onto PC so just buy the games cheaper to start with and they have no residual value whatsoever so problem solved. WiiU games seem to hold their prices extremely well although not had cause to sell any yet - and probably won't like to keep hold of my Ninty games as I go back to them all the time.

I did really well there over Christmas, actually - prices were really good. I got Black Flag, Watch Dogs and Destiny on the cheap, off the top of my head. I think I could probably trade what I bought back now and break even if I wanted to, because prices have shot up. I can't imagine it's supply and demand, because it's not hard to get hold of Dragon Age and Far Cry, for example - they're not rare, just pop round the corner to HMV or Argos and they're either going to be cheaper or the same brand new. I guess they rely on people wanting or needing to use trade-in credit, but the prices must be tracking something somewhere - maybe online prices, as most of the Xmas discounts are now over.

Anyway, veering off topic. Don't go to CEX for PS4 games! They're too expensive and the music is bad.

I don't know if this is really the thread for this but I sold my PS4 today. I got £225 from CEX for it with the camera which I thought was okay. Here's where I'm stupid though, I still had a year of PS Plus. I planned to sit out the year and just pick up the plus games but then the price I would have got would probably be more than £40 less than I got today so whatever.

Obviously, I had all those issues with PSN fraud which certainly soured me on the console and made me feel funny about buying anything else from Sony. I suppose that played a big part but I didn't immediately think of selling it, it was the other day when talking to a friend who doesn't have much interest in modern gaming and he asked if anything was coming out soon on the PS4. Not really, I replied. There were a few titles I could have mentioned but none of them would have meant anything to him and I realised they don't really mean anything to me. Even now, I can only think of Bloodborne and No Man's Sky which both look like they might be good but aren't necessarily what I'd normally buy.

I'm not trying to piss on anyone's parade, the PS4 will have many great games over its lifespan and will only get better, it's just not for me anymore. I feel a weird sense of relief to be out of the loop. It's strangely stressful to own one of these consoles and keep up with all the news and issues and workarounds. I'll miss the football games I think but there's nothing else on the horizon that really grabs me. These are interesting consoles I think, the Bone and the PS4, I'll enjoy watching what happens with them but I'm glad I don't have to 'worry' about it anymore, which sounds ridiculous but you kind of do.

Fair enough but you know what I don't understand? Why you would 'worry' about gaming or how you would find it stressful.

Maybe you are just finished with gaming in general.

It's really very simple. It's January. None of this years games are out until march at the earliest. You are bored and fed up trying to find interest in something that intrinsically you have no interest in anymore. So you return to something you once found comfort in, Nintendo, hoping that by simplifying everything you will find meaning in it again.

Come the end of the year you will want a PS4 again having exhausted the Wii U's library, and pandering after something different, again. And so the cycle continues.

I find it easier sometimes just to take a break from it altogether, only playing the games I really want to.

For me the next ones will be Majora's Mask and Bloodborne.

Yeah it's silly but there's that thing of wanting to keep up. You don't want to miss out on deals or an exciting new release. It's just the way I am I suppose, I know it's a bit weird but to just be out of it is nice. It's like the difference between watching a horse race and watching one when you've got a bet on it. With the Wii U there's only about 5 games to think about and I already know what they all are. There is an element of being finished with it all though, I just can't bring myself to care as much as you're supposed to now, complex control schemes or mechanics and I just can't be arsed.

Heh, I know what you mean. I promised myself that this gen I was going to choose one console and that was it.

Then you start reading about the amazing fun people are having on games that you're not going to be able to play on your console and before you know it you've bought all three consoles. You donn't actually use them THAT much, but at least you sit safe in the knowledge that you're not missing out because you don't have the hardware. You're missing out because you chose to. Mental!

:D Agree! I have just broke the cycle now.... only have a Wii U and PC.

Decided I really don't have enough time for anything else and need a PC for other things other than games anyway.

At least I've satisfied my inner game geek with the PS4 and Xbox One and I now know what they are about. I'll miss the odd exclusive but I can live with that. If any must have titles come out for either may pick one up again later in the cycle when they are cheaper. However the PC more than supplies the shinies and the range of games (x plats and indie). Wii U for my Ninty fix.
