But wait! There's more!

So why on earth anyone needs to waste precious storage space on uncompressed HD audio is beyond me - just use a 96kb MP3 and let your £1000 Walkman work its charm.

Funnily enough it's true excellent gear can work wonders with low quality mp3 files.

So we have Sony renewed for being fucking awful in the portable solid state market with no presence in the hi end audiophile market releasing something that makes apple stuff look cheap hoping to make a quick buck off the stupid - what could fail?

The price is pretty screwed up. But it's snip compared to this lunacy from iriver, the AK-240:

Yours for only 2200 pounds sterling.

Personally I'd love a highish end player that allows for Spotify streaming, none out there sadly.

A massive gap in the market opened when Apple cut loose the Classic. Sony's actions are entirely predictable.

Did it? Apple only discontinued the classic because their HDD manufacturer literally refused to produce the small quantities they now needed.

Yes mate, i have. Do you have a Plex pass? Have you opened a free account with Plex, where you set your username?

I have a free account with a username yes. Do I need to pay for a Plex Pass to make it work on the PS4? If so, I'll just stick to my chromecast.

I paid for a month Plexpass to try the app out, it's not that good really. It buffers a lot, and also seems to have problems playing things in the right aspect ratio.

I'd certainly stick to Chromecast if I had one - Also, it should become a free to use app at some point, most of the Plexpass only apps tend to migrate across eventually.

The buffering would depend on your local network surely. I run Plex off various devices and I've only seen it buffer on high bitrate stuff on wireless stuff. One the XboxOne (wired) it's been flawless.

I've got a very good wireless signal, and my Plex server has an Intel i7-3770K running at 3.5GHz with 16 gigs ram. It's a common complaint in the Plex Playstation forum.

The PS forum is only accessible by Plexpass owners by the way. There's quite a bit of complaining in there.

I've tried it on both the Xbox One and PS4 and it definitely buffers a lot more on the PS4.

Yeah, must be a PS4 problem because it works flawlessly on Xbox.

Whoever negged me, I wasn't insinuating that the PS4 was to blame, it's more likely the Plex app that's causing the problems. I'm sure if enough people complain, and it seems like they are doing over on their forums, it'll get sorted.

So take a deep breath, your console choice was ok.

I think my PS4 is buggered :(

It keeps on spitting out the discs every now and then. After a quick Google it seems to be a well known issue and I've been able to fix it, albeit only temporarily.

How much of a pain in the arse is this going to be to get it fixed?

Out of warranty? I'm sure someone else was quoted £170 by Sony for that fault - pretty nasty given its age and the fact this seems a common fault.

Cheers for the feedback. No point forking out a subscription fee for a problem-ridden app then, when I can simply cast away.

Does anyone else have a problem with the What's New feed on the PS4 not working? It keeps giving me a spinning circle and nothing else. Everything else on the machine (friends list, store, online play etc) is working fine.

If I boot into safe mode and rebuild the database, it comes back immediately but nothing else seems to fix it. Then it breaks again quite soon. I fixed it last night, it worked all evening and now I've got the spinning circle again. I'm even starting to wondering if it's something to do with the game I'm currently playing (Tomb Raider) as it always worked fine before, and I'm sure I shouldn't be needing to rebuild the PS4's database on a daily basis.

I'm not planning to rush out today or anything, but can someone tell me about Vita & remote play with the PS4? Is it shite?

I've had a Google and I'm seeing mixed views on things like controller configuration. Example: Shadow of Mordor is apparently terrible over remote play. Is there no way to hook up your Dual Shock to the Vita somehow and use 'normal' controls?

It's a technical marvel but it does depend very much on the game you're playing. It's capped to a maximum of 30 fps and like you say the controls aren't all there on the Vita so the games adopt a variety of strange touchscreen solutions to get around that. When it works, it works very well. I've played games as diverse as Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy XIV over Remote Play with great success, but equally many games won't suit it. Treat it as an optional extra rather than a reason to purchase.

Basically, if this kind of feature is really important to you, buy a Wii U.

They plex devs are pretty good at listening to the customers so I would totally go to the forums and mention it. It'll get sorted pretty sharpish.

Its alright but milage will vary depending on the game and your keeness to play remotely. The resolution of the stream and the latency can both vary which makes it range from feeling like living in the future to virtually unplayable. I have tried on both the vita and my Z3 and TBH I think it works better on the phone. Its a virtually identical experience interms of the quality of the team but using a DS4 rather than the vita makes a big difference as the latter can get very fiddly on games with complex controls (e.g. GTA)

It sometimes takes ages to pop up on mine. Sometimes doesn't at all. I assumed it was a PSN thing.

Yep, has been erratic on my system ever since I bought it a couple of weeks ago.

Speaking of which, does anyone have their PS4 occasionally letting out a beep? I looked it up and it might be a non-seated disc, but after ejecting and re-inserting I get the same problem. Console is on a vertical stand but so was my flatmate's and we never had this strange little chirrup.
