PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Just wish some of that money was reinvested into the PSN infrastructure rather than propping up Sony.

They're trimming back TV and phone production to focus on the money making stuff, i.e. PlayStation. I guess that tallies with the fairly recent announcement that they need to invest in their infrastructure.

Don't think that's something we'll see the benefits of any time soon, though.

Agreed. I doubt we'll see the result of any investment soon; they said they would begin the investment in infrastructure during the second half of this financial year, so it's unlikely anything much has happened yet.

By now they've perhaps ordered a couple of extra servers from PC World on Kaz's corporate credit card, and asked a guy down the pub who has a mate whose uncle says he works for MS how to build some resilience into PSN.

Just recently found out that Plex is available for the PS4 and downloaded it. It then asks to put in a pin on plex.tv/pin but that website also has a place for a username and it didn't work.

Anyone managed to get it running?

Yes mate, i have. Do you have a Plex pass? Have you opened a free account with Plex, where you set your username?

I suspect that the respected news organisation, "Newsbeat," usually known for its hard-hitting exposés, on this occasion has no idea what it's talking about. It claims the new thing has 128GB of memory which is enough to hold 1,700 songs, for example.

I assume there's more to the story than they report.

1700 flac songs is probably right isn't it? The device is all about storing uncompressed music so it must be around that I guess.

I didn't realise there was already heated debate on that topic. Sorry to derail! Anyhow, it all depends on the specs of that sony walkman, it may have a very decent DAC chip in it with appropriate sound quality to justify the cost. I certainly lament the passing of my i-river H120, the last time I had decent sound on the go. The variety of Spotify on iphone is a good substitute mind.

I'll maintain though it's daft to suggest there's no upgrade in quality in cd players at 1000 quid. Though it does depend what you're outputing to. Anybody who argues otherwise I imagine hasn't any experience of it.

But wait! There's more!

By restoring the subtleties of the original recording that are lost during the compression process, DSEE HX delivers a rich, studio-quality audio experience for all your music.

So why on earth anyone needs to waste precious storage space on uncompressed HD audio is beyond me - just use a 96kb MP3 and let your £1000 Walkman work its charm.
