PlayStation 4 Console Thread

You can open the pad and block a couple of connectors on the offending ribbon cable with a slip of paper, thus leaving the USB charging connection intact (they share the same ribbon cable). There should a video on youtube.

I don't know why anyone could hate the light that much to get inside and mess with the wiring. Besides how are you going to play joust or tell what colour you are in Towerfall?

Quite. If I was bothered I'd just stick a bit of electrical tape over it. Haven't Sony said they're going to allow users to disable the light in a future firmware update?

Does it work with all of the functions though? On my GT60 I can use X and the directions in a few apps & the dashboard but there is no 'home' or back button and stuff like Hulu, iPlayer doesn't work at all.

I use my Bravia remote all the time to control the PS4. The circle pad works as the dpad. the centre button is 'x', the return button is 'o' and crucially the home button is the playstation button allowing you to back out of apps.

I've never had to explore any other controls really (as I only use to it save battery on the controllers whilst watching netflix etc), and functions like volume remain.

Strangely, this means I can use my Wii U pad's remote control function to control the PS4, with the dpad and a and b (inverted of course). But no, it won't work to control games.

FAKEEDIT: Just checked. 'options' is 'options' somewhat unsurprisingly.

Pretty sure that was something one of the Sony big wigs said they'd get the devs to look at. That was around launch though. Not hear anything since. I expect they'll not disable it entirely in case VR ever takes off. Bit of an odd decision if it's down to that since the takeup of VR isn't going to be big this generation. Certainly not enough to nobble battery life on EVERY controller.

They're not adding the option to disable the light. They said that it's not a big factor on battery life but they've lied about controllers before. The brightness setting is there for folk who didn't like seeing the reflection on their TV.

I heard this too...

The light still reflects in the TV on dim. Can't see why they can't put the option to turn it off then override the setting and switch it on if the app or game in question needs to have it on.

Not fussed about the battery drain just find the glow of it annoying whist playing at night.

I really haven't noticed it at all in my deep Panny plasma blacks, and I've been playing a lot of The Last of Us, you'd have thought I'd had seen it in those dark, cold and lonely places.

Just my TV its old and has overly large shiny black borders... :D

My gf put these in my Christmas card, I never had a problem with the light bars (not much reflection on a plasma, the pads turn off after 10 minutes + using the dim setting made them barely noticeable) but I think they look really cool. Recommended.

Play with a tea towel over your controller.

:D sold my PS4 this morning so no problem anymore. :)

Not because of the controller lights... Just it never got any use other than the odd game of DriveClub. Shame really wanted to like it. Might pick one up in a couple of years when they are cheap to have a play through any worthwhile exclusives (which will also be cheaper).

$20 for 1 month, $45 for 3 months.

I've really enjoyed using PSNow other than the library content/pricing. It's stepping in the right direction, just very very slowly. I'm sure within 5 years that it will have 90%+ of popular PS1/2/3 games. Right now it's about 4% :/

Oh btw!!! I remember before the launch that Sony were banging on about being able to stream all games as they download?! That was a lie wasn't it?

They said games can be played while downloading once they've pulled down enough data depending on developer support, that was about it.

Hmm Sony streaming games over PSN - can't see that having any issues.....

Yeah, I'm pretty laid back about the usual shitbricking of the network, but there ain't a chance in hell of stable usage with this thing.

Sure as shit not enough for another subscription anyway.
