PlayStation 4 Console Thread

PSN is working again, so I'm all signed up and printed off a big list of everyone to add some friends (I have no friends :( ), just to check if I'm missing something though or is the PSN Store terrible? I was thinking I'd get something I can play when the kids are about and unless I search for it, Plants Vs Zombie Garden Warfare doesn't exist? All I'm filtering on is PS4 games, surely that should show me all games I could buy... What if there's other games worth buying and I don't even know about them??

Also - add one person as a friend then go through their friends list adding more people. Much quicker.

That is pretty much how the Vita does it, but with added options. All saves are done locally, you can then choose on a game per game basis to manually upload saves to the cloud, or choose to have it automatically uploaded every time there is a change. It is how the Vita does it and it has served me very well.

I hate that everything is automatically uploaded on the PS4, considering there is a limit to the space. If they got rid of the limits (I'd pay for that) then fine auto upload the lot.

I'm not entirely sure if you know about it, but I thought I'd post it here just to make sure it is known generally.

You can turn auto-upload off on a per game basis:

Hit Options while highlighting a title in the [upload to Online Storage]. You can find that particular menu here:

[settings] > [Application Saved Data Management] > [saved Data in System Storage] > [upload to Online Storage]

It's launched proper, I believe, but I've never bothered as the prices are absurd. I'll take another look when they roll it into a PS+ price structure.

Functionally, it worked really well for me on the few PS3 games I tried during beta.

Damn, totally in love with The Last of Us Remastered. To think I wrote off the PS3 game because it was too boring and clunky ... I'm now playing it like I used to play Manhunt (ie sneak up and grab rather than go in and fight) and it's about a brazillion times better. Of course the better controller and improved graphics/framerate only add to the joy.

Ah, thanks for the info. I was initially excited when I heard about it, and thought foolishly that because PS3 games have dropped in value that we wouldn't get that bullshit situation of no savings being passed on because it might upset retailers.

My PS4 is fucked. Randomly ejecting discs mid-game, or turning itself on from standby to eject a disc. Tried all the solutions online, only a hard reset works and then its only for a few hours before it starts again. Gonna get in contact with Very, who I got it from and get it all sorted.

Had it two and a half months, so shoddily fucking designed.

Mine won't accept discs at all. Few 'fixes' online that seem to have worked for folk, database rebuild, system update, tightening the eject screw but none worked for me :(

Has anyone else had this problem? It's a launch PS4 so out of warranty. Any idea how much Sony will charge to fix it? Also can I get Amazon to replace it due to that EU 2 years guarantee thing?

with all this talk of friends, I should mention again that I have very few, and my thingy is sunversusmoon. Currently still playing a lot of single player stuff but been messing with Dragon Age's multiplayer.

And I just like the idea of having friends.

Amazon will replace it, if it won't let you generate a returns postage form from your previous orders page then use the support chat and they'll send you one. That's the way I've gotten round it automatically thinking stuff is out of warranty when it isn't really.

Got the standard one year warranty response from them :(

If you're in the UK the Sale of Goods Act trumps warranties. Tell them to replace or repair it and if they don't take them to the Small Claims Court.

They told me another team will contact me about it so hopefully will get some joy. Would taking them to the Small Claims Court cost me?

Yep, plus there's little chance it would come to that, I think. Too many companies try it on with customers now, but once you remind them of the SOG act they usually back down.

In other news, to add to my niggles as a new PS4 owner, I was surprised to see there's still no official media remote. There are third party efforts but they seem rather pants. Don't want to have to remember to switch my pad off every time I watch something on Netflix, lest it burn through the dualshock's twenty minute battery life.

If you buy a Sony Bravia TV you'll get a free remote to control PS4 ^_^

Does it work with all of the functions though? On my GT60 I can use X and the directions in a few apps & the dashboard but there is no 'home' or back button and stuff like Hulu, iPlayer doesn't work at all.

Weird that I've never asked this since owning a PS4 since launch day but is there any way to kill that light on the pad? I know you can dim it (about 5%!) but can you not just kill it? I find PS4 pads drain after about 2-3 hours of use!

Also, sharing videos. Is it just me or does everyone else press share at the start of any game sessions just to 'kickstart' sharing? If I don't do this I find that often the PS4 has not been 'recording' anything.

I don't really use it but when I played around with it it seemed to do most stuff, switch on PS4, navigate around, start apps, go back etc. Bought TV last year with PS4 so relatively recent model. Haven't tried within apps like iPlayer.
