PlayStation 4 Console Thread

You can do it online, but you you have to do a reset of all devices at once, so if you have a Vita unfortunately that's getting deactivated as well.

They really didn't make this obvious. I logged into my SEN account and faffed around the options looking for it. Eventually found "deactivate all devices", which only listed a PS4. However, it made no mention of a "primary" device, so had no idea if what I was doing was correct.

Anyway, sorted now, cheers.

Is there any way to individually set which games get to upload their saves? 1GB of cloud storage is utterly useless when LBP3 wants a third of that, some other games have ludicrous save sizes too. I miss the way the PS3 did a lot of things and cloud saving is one of them.

It's 1GB each for PS3, PS4 and Vita which sounded like plenty as I'd had the PS3 for three years and only used 200MB but that was a real eye-opener checking the size of save files last night. There are quite a few above 80MB which is just stupid.

In the main Settings menu you'll find a section that shows them but it's not immediately obvious how recent the uploaded saves are and I think you need to pop into them by game one at a time which is a pain, that's what I had to so when clearing some out last night anyway. If you're doing a drive replacement then definitely back them up to USB (available from the same section) first rather than rely on the cloud saves.

I am tempted to add a USB drive for saves on the PS4 as my primary anyway now.

Singstar takes the piss with the size it needs for save files, but the management of what gets uploaded vastly needs improving. I am pretty much ignoring the cloud saving at the moment, until they fix it.

The Vita nails it perfectly when it comes to deciding how you use the cloud.

The vita is awful for saves management esp given cross save stuff - i don't think they could make it worse if they tried.

It's pretty simple, it should save locally and auto backup to the cloud like every other cloud saving thing in the world ever!

I was browsing my PS4 data the other day, as I'm nearing the limit, and all the save files are ridiculous sizes. I can't see how any of them need to be over 1mb really, but it looks like 10.49mb might be the minimum, as a lot of games are using that. If you want my opinion, these developers are drunk on storage space. 73mb for Alien Isolation! I just had a closer look at that - it's a series of saves for each mission played, and they all take up 10.49mb. I bet they're only actually using a few kb. Similarly Last of Us has a profile and a game save, and both are 10.49mb. Not that it makes much difference, in fairness. It's the principle of the thing.

That is pretty much how the Vita does it, but with added options. All saves are done locally, you can then choose on a game per game basis to manually upload saves to the cloud, or choose to have it automatically uploaded every time there is a change. It is how the Vita does it and it has served me very well.

I hate that everything is automatically uploaded on the PS4, considering there is a limit to the space. If they got rid of the limits (I'd pay for that) then fine auto upload the lot.

There needs to be a global setting on vita and then you can deselect the saves you don't want, having to go through 30+ games and tell them to upload one at a time is a pain in the ass esp as it takes so long to do its little connect to psn check thing!

If you don't auto upload on Sony machines and your machine dies thats it, game save gone forever due to encryption on hdd etc - cloud saving should be save game backup first hence it needing to be auto. The mega big file saves like singstar tracks etc should ask if you want that aspect uploaded but the game save still needs to be auto by default IMO.

Quick question about CDKeys (as I need to renew my Playstation Plus). I've liked their Facebook page. How do I then get the 5% discount? Do they send a code? Or do they apply it automatically?

You need to go to their Facebook page and click a button to get given a code. And you need to do this for every purchase. If you want to buy more than one code, do them individually - the code only discounts one item.

There sort of is in the content manager app. You can multiselect games and perform an action on them all at once.

I do agree about auto uploading by default, but it really does need them to offer up more cloud storage to make that possible. I am full on mine and I just get a ton of 'failed to upload' messages every day.

It needs to offer the option to upload the first time you boot a game like the PS3 does with a clear message of what it's doing any why you'd want it, I could never understand why the Vita didn't do that. I thought it was so obtuse and hidden away on there that I had to Google it and the PS4 goes the other way and is equally problematic.

Yeah, that is true. It is something I do like about the PS3 system.

The entire notion of limited save game space, whatever the sync mechanics, is just dumb. It's hardly something most people are going to have any insight into, and we're technically paying for cloud syncs as plus subscribers.

It's just mire corner cutting by a cash strapped corporation.

Has anyone seen this before? Apparently it released last November along with PS4.

They are pimping it over at the US blog, but having a look it seems a bit useless as barely any games support it.

PSN is working again, so I'm all signed up and printed off a big list of everyone to add some friends (I have no friends :( ), just to check if I'm missing something though or is the PSN Store terrible? I was thinking I'd get something I can play when the kids are about and unless I search for it, Plants Vs Zombie Garden Warfare doesn't exist? All I'm filtering on is PS4 games, surely that should show me all games I could buy... What if there's other games worth buying and I don't even know about them??
