PlayStation 4 Console Thread

This looks interesting (even if I have barely a clue what is going on...):

I installed the 2tb recommended by Eurogamer and its been brilliant. Everything seems to be that little bit smoother and the size is great.

One thing though - it seems that at certain points there's a beep noise... It's nothing like the turn on and turn off sound the PS4 makes but something different, and it's coming from the hard drive itself it seems. I mean everything works fine but I just found it a bit off putting. From a quick search it seems I'm not the only one either.

Anyone else had similar?

I've installed the same drive, but haven't noticed any odd beeps and it's been in the PS4 a few weeks now.

I'm thinking of buying Hohokum to play with my daughter, who's six. Is this a good plan? She's fairly proficient with the pad - she can get around Minecraft fine - but doesn't like feeling pressured. She didn't get on very well with Flow, which looks similar, but I think that was mainly down to the tilt controls which I don't really think much of either.

It seems like an ideal candidate - fun to look at and non-stressful - and I was wondering if anyone else had kids who enjoyed it.

Similarly, now we've got two pads, any good local co-op games that are kid-friendly? We've got Minecraft and Spelunky, where the ghost feature offsets the difficulty really well. I'll almost certainly pick up LBP3 at some point, but any pointers to good digital titles would be appreciated.

Sounds like Hohokum is the perfect game then. There's no time pressure and only a couple of instances where there's a puzzle to be solved in order to proceed. But the bulk of the game is instantly accessible and the main attraction is the joy of moving around, interacting with the charming and brilliantly designed and stylized world.

My 8 year old girl could play Hohokum perfectly well, and we both found it engaging and very charming for a time, but she didn't really crave to go back to it after the first couple of sessions. It's possible we skated along the surface in a superficial way and didn't really dig deep enough to find the compelling gameplay. The kids were much better than me about figuring out what was going on, they're much better at looking at the art and noticing what they were changing or needed to do. Sometimes the results were delightful.

If my PS4 were to fail, for whatever reason - disc tray fucking up like others have had... How long do Sony cover repairs for? Just the one year?

I'd assume it was a year, as that's the legal requirement in this country. The only time I recall any console manufacture extending that was Microsoft with the 360 because of it's horrific failure record, and let's be honest that wasn't out the good of their hearts that was bad publicity management.

I did a quick search and couldn't see an answer, so, I assume there are one or two folks here that imported a PS4...

I just moved back to the UK from Canada, bringing my launch NA PS4 with me assuming it would work. I was just about to finally set it back up and noticed it has 120v etched on the bottom rather than the variable voltage I just assumed (And saw in a tear-down article before launch) the PSU could handle.

Has anyone imported the same NA unit (Model: CUH-1001A) and have it working with just a UK figure-8 cable without burning the house down, or do I need a step-down?

I've no idea if it's already been mentioned, but The Witcher 3 digital appears to be on pre-order for $53.99 (£33ish) from the us store or £40.49 in the uk store. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, especially for a digital version.....

Aye, saw Moore arrive on stage to little fanfare. Didn't realize it was only on offer for a day, though. That's the sort of thing I'd have left until the kids gave me free time.

You can buy it now and play it whenever just like Ps Plus.

Interesting that the PS4 freebie is the latest EA Access title from T'other side.

I just bought a PS4 today (Farcry4, Drive Club and Last of Us bundle).

I'm not going to be able to use it for the next few weeks so I'm going to let my mate have a go. Can he create a profile and play The Last of Us as it's a digital download that's been redeemed under my idiwa PSN tag?

Or will he just have to play it under my user name/ tag. Ta.
