Mine doesn't glow when plugged into the MacBook Pro, nor when plugged into a mains extension block that has USB ports on it.

..curious.

Tried it in my MacBook Air in case a laptop is different from a desktop, but it still glowed.

It worked for months and does power it when i am playing the PS4, just doesn't charge it when the PS4 is off - it is most odd!

Quick test and it's not glowing when plugged into my MBP, usb on amp or into iPhone charger

Settings > Power Saving Settings > set functions available in rest mode > Supply Power to USB ports > set it to Always and it will behave as before default is 3 hours, might be off if you changed it due to the rest mode bug

I got a second controller today so I could play Minecraft with my daughter (possibly a grave mistake). I'd already learned that they don't come with a USB cable but I'm still going to moan about it. First my 360 doesn't come with a HDMI lead. Then my 3DSXL doesn't come with a charger. And now my Dualshock doesn't include a measly USB lead. It's a safe bet that if I'm buying a second pad, I'm going to want to use it alongside my first pad, so having them both charged up would be useful. I expect Sony want me to put pad A on charge before bed and then get up in the middle of the night and swap it for pad B, but I'm not falling for that.

Anyway, like I said I already knew about it and I ordered a three metre cable that can reach the sofa for the 24-hour binges I like to imagine I'll have at some point. And I'm sure this has been raised already by people who aren't a year behind but, still, talking about it helps.

I've noticed that with the charging. It only glows charging via the ps4 or xb1 - def doesn't work using an iPad or iPhone plug which is a shame as that's the only way I can play & charge short of buying a 3 metre cable

Mine glows when charging it from a kindle 3-pin USB wall plug.

Oddly it seems to have enabled the PS4 turning on the TV from standby and going to the correct HDMI channel when you boot it up. That never worked for me until now.

That always worked for me, but was a bit slow. Usually I had turned the telly on and changed channels before I realised it can do itself. As for the Sky app, does it look any better than the Andriod and 360 apps? Need HD streaming on there!

Yeah, when on standby and if you have HDMI-CEC. Just power on from the pad and the TV will turn on and tune into the correct HDMI channel. Sky Boxes now do this as well. Sadly they don't turn them off.

You can also use your TV remote as a media remote on your PS4 with that enabled. Amazon Prime is the only app that is a bit crap with that though.

Most things can. It's part of HDMI spec. PS4 can, Chromecast can, if I remember right even my old Youview box could.

It may be in your TV settings. It's called CEC, but not all TVs will have it, depending on age.

The most annoying thing with HDMI CEC is that the PS4 automatically turns on and changes the TV channel when I bring up the menu to choose an HDMI device and the PS4 one is the first that's lit up (without actually having selected it).

The really annoying thing is that there are seemingly about three points in the boot-up process where the PS4 sends the ‘switch to HDMI’ instruction to the TV, so that if you try to switch back to Strictly or whatever, it reverts to the PS4. You get into this back-and-forth battle with the PS4 over what appears on the screen.

Seems that my TV won't do CEC. It's got Viera Link which is Panasonic's modified version of it.
