I was considering Alien Isolation too but I'm convinced that pretty much every retail PS4 game released so far will be wildly cheap at retail soon enough. I'll wait til the new year.

Game have the retail version for the same price at the moment (hopefully for the weekend). I'm inclined to go for a disc copy because it's obvious I'm going to have to juggle games on the drive at some point, and reinstalling from disc beats another 18gb download when the time comes.

Cheap DS4s in Game, too, I might call in on the way home and grab one of those.

I've a WiiU - which is the greatest console ever - but dullards will argue that it's last gen because of the pixels. I've also a vita and a PS3 so PSPlus is awesome for me. Either way it will be my first powerhouse (or maybe powershed with all the problems the next gen have been having).

I was in the same boat as you until last weekend. You'll get a 14-day trial of PS+, which will get you Binding of Isaac and Steamworld Dig, both well worth a look. Some of the earlier games are dropping in price preowned now - I picked up Watch Dogs and Black Flag on the cheap that way. I reckon GTAV is essential, even if you played it last gen - with the video recording and first person bolted on it's pretty much a bottomless pit of entertainment value. I got a download of Last of Us in my bundle which, like GTA, I've already played - but I'm happily playing it again with the smooth frame rate, camera mode and frankly mind-boggling visuals for an old-timer like me.

I'm really enjoying Resogun, and the season pass is 60% off on PS+ right now - that adds an Every Extend styled game mode that I'm really enjoying. Spelunky is there, of course, and remains the best game ever. Geometry Wars just came out - early days for me, but I fully expect to be enjoying it for a long time.

Obviously it depends what you like - I'm not usually big on RPGs, but I'm giving Dragon Age serious consideration. The sooner you get in, the more you'll get out of PS+, which I think is a great service (especially as I kept my PS3). The PS+ sale has a lot of good deals right now and I expect there'll be more to come around Christmas. I think I waited about the right length to dive in - there's enough variety there now to make it more than an occasional-use trophy console, which was what I got with my launch 360.

Cheers for this. I've a small stockpile of PS4 games already thanks to the vita/ps3 that I already own.

I really want that 2D combat game - is it Towerfall? And Nidhogg. And sports friends (as I only have 1 controller for my PS3 and it seems silly to invest in another one now).

I like Indie Weird Stuff and 2D platformers more than I like AAA things generally. But I adored Last of Us and GTAV. Not sure about double dipping though.

Destiny is tempting - but sounds like it could be a skinner box of grind.

Both are good double dips, though it definitely helped that I got them both in my bundle - I'd definitely buy GTAV otherwise, but I'd probably hold off for a cheaper copy of LOU.

If you get in in time for the current PS+ sale then Rogue Legacy is heavily discounted and covers the weird stuff / 2D platformer bases with aplomb. Guacamelee is also in the sale, and you may already have Spelunky on PS+. I guess Octodad and Surgeon Simulator fall squarely in the weird stuff camp, but I can't speak for their PS4 versions.

Rogue Legacy and Spelunky are both virtually bottomless platformers (sometimes literally in Spelunky's case) and enormously replayable.

Nidhogg

Plus the last gen ports like Flower and Hotline Miami and Spelunky and Unfinished Swan if you didn't have a PS3.

Hard for me to pick a highlight amongst those. Towerfall or Velocity maybe.

I'd forgotten about Towerfall. I'm liking the sound of the SSB-style single player mode. Does it stand up well as a single player game generally? I don't wear my multiplayer hat very often these days.

It's okay in single player but the real meat is the local multiplayer mode ( you can do online play via share play ).

I got Transistor. Immediately I like it more than Bastion.

I'm so shit though, I died at basically the first boss. I had no idea what the hell the upgrade menu was all about either, that was a bit confusing. Basically that's been my day, between this and PES2015. Get fucking confused at menus because they're too abstract to actually work out.

I called into Game to see if I could get another controller, but they were all sold out and the store looked like it had Hieronymus Bosch as a guest manager. So I had a moment of madness and got Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age from Tesco. Slightly amazed by the fast installs and relatively small patches - I guess GTA wasn't the best introduction to the system in those respects.

Don't come in this thread much and barely used my PS4 much lately but does anyone else constantly utterly fucking abysmal download speeds now? It's worse than the PS3 speeds!

I have a rock solid 100mb Virgin line and has been great over the past 6 months but for about the last week have updating all the BF4 updates and game I've missed and it's just soooo bloody slow all the time. Have sony fucked everything up again.

Also, rest mode is still broke for me. Orange light goes on but disappears by morning

A lad tbb and I went to school with suffered a heavy defeat on Super Tennis and so heaved his mattress down the stairs. I would have given up well before I got the quilt and sheets off but he saw it through to the end.

a double mattress at that!

Grrr Fucking L2 button on the controller has stopped working. Its been treated with kid-gloves, its not been dropped or anything, it was working fine yesterday.

This is the first time ever a controller has broken on me. Thats this weekends' GTA session fucked.

Managed to fill in an online return (although it took a LOT of drilling down through the webpages of bullshit to get to it).

Is this a common thing? (buttons just randomly stop working?)

Yes quite a few reports of the trigger buttons, my left control stick would not work properly. 10 day turnaround from Sony to get replacement.

Thanks. 10 days though, man...

I am hoping this time they actually fix MY controller rather than a refurb, unlikely that may be, otherwise this will happen again.

Will be powering up the 360 again then...

I've sent three controllers back now & have always had replacements never the original fixed & returned.

Has it stopped working or is it just sticking? If the latter it's a simple 2 minute job to fix. You don't need to dismantle the controller - the button will just pop off if you lever it with a small screwdriver or something, and then you just clean it and pop it back in. There are videos on YouTube showing what to do.

Mine had this problem last December and it's been fine ever since I fixed it.
