PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Further to yesterday's fun time call to Sony's customer support, today was pretty much a repeat of "our systems are down again, sir".

Was told it might take up to two weeks to repair and return "maybe".

Thought fuck it, called Amazon, explained the problem and the lovely lass on the other end has already dispatched a replacement out to me. That's pretty fuckin' boss customer service right there.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, Sony deceived consumers by falsely advertising the PlayStation Vita's "game-changing" features when the console launched in the US. And, perhaps in an effort to stay out of court, the electronics company has agreed and, more importantly, settled with the FTC. As a result, Sony will be providing a partial refund of $25 cash or credit, or a $50 voucher for select, as-of-yet-unnamed games and/or services, to people who bought its handheld console prior to June 1st, 2012. The FTC cites Sony's Cross-Platform Gaming, Cross-Save, Remote Play and 3G connectivity as the features used to mislead consumers, noting that some of these a) didn't work as advertised or b) were nowhere to be found.

"Sony claimed, for example, that PS Vita users could pause any PS3 game at any time and continue to play the game on their PS Vita from where they left off. This feature, however, was only available for a few PS3 games, and the pause-and-save capability described in the ads varied significantly from game to game,"

Interesting. Best get Driveclub and the suspend/resume feature of the PS4 working.

A long shot but have you tried enabling/disabling HDCP on the PS4?

Just to rule out another possibilty.

What's this? Sounds like a mode my TV might not support?

My PS3 once became so confused by a cheap HDMI switch box that it stopped outputting HDMI entirely. I think it was locked into some mode my TV didn't like. There was some button incantation to reset it to 480p - I bet the PS4 has something similar. Try that.

I tried the Ps4 equivalent of that and got actual static.

Why not plug in HDMI Switcher and use PS4 connected to HDMI Switcher.

PC - HDMI SWITCHER INPUT 1- OUTPUT (TO TV HDMI SOCKET)

PS4 - HDMI SWITCHER INPUT 2 - OUTPUT (TO TV HDMI SOCKET)

as it sound like it is working, but not direct to TV. Have you tried that yet.

Would this make a difference?

Urgh, so close to buying one, went into GAME this morning armed with £22.50 worth of tat to trade in against their FC4/Last of Us bundle but couldn't quite bring myself to do it. I feel like an idiot because I love those two games but want Dragon Age too, which would take it up to £400, a number which makes me feel a little giddy! I asked if they could do any bundle deal including that but not unreasonably they said no. The guy suggested waiting until the weekend as the bundles are due to change anyway.

tl;dr - someone talk me into buying one please ;)

Buy it, play and complete Far Cry 4 & The Last of Us then trade them on (if not digital) for Dragon Age.

£400 is a great price for those three games.

I spent £439 on Killzone with two controllers & a camera on release.

You could buy a PS4 & Dragon Age for £349

Or you could just buy the console for £299

& buy Dragon Age for £37

Yeah, just go ahead and do it. I had exactly the same qualms last weekend, except I had a bigger trade-in value. But I was full of doubts and guilt - I've got loads of PS3 games to finish (and start). And I had both the bundled games on the PS3 (they were part of the trade-in). But damn it, I waited a full year, that has to count for something. And it's very nice and I'm glad I did. I'm going to be charitable and assume you deserve something nice. You could be hit by a bus tomorrow! Of course it could happen while you're picking up your PS4. Even so, get out there and buy one and wallow in it. That's why we're all here, isn't it? To wallow? I'd hate to think there was anything more to it.

HDCP is an encryption handshake between HDMI devices and yes it is possible that there may be a problem between your PS4 and T.V

Just go into the PS4 video options on a different t.v and change it, then try it on your other T.V

I bought an accessory for my PS4 today:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00OA5Z2VI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I got it for £440 in one of their black friday deals.

Yay!

Just out of interest has anyone tried getting a replacement controller from Shopto due to the rubber splitting? I only have one and really don't want to buy another whilst I wait for a new one to be returned.

The funny thing with the sticks is that i have loved the ps4 pad since day one of having it but when i went back to my mates std sticks they are not as good as the xbone sticks - i would never have changed them if mine hadn't fallen apart so thankful for it in an odd way!
