PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I've been doing a lot of remote play the last couple of days. Haven't tried this in a couple of months but it seems to be working a lot better these days, don't know if one of the system updates improved things somewhere along the way. PES plays great using it, and if Dragon Age 3 only let you re map the the attack button it would be the best remote play game ever.

How do I chat with a friend on Destiny? Do we need to make a party first? Which headsets work?

And is it possible to buy a cheap wired one like the old Xbox Live one from anywhere?

The earpiece you get in the box with the PS4 should suffice until you get a better one.

There's an earpiece in the box??

It's a disgrace you probably discarded it in the bin thinking it was tat. I don't know if what Graham says is right in my experience PS party chat is terrible by default but I've used the iphone headphones whenever i've been playing online on mine and they've been fine (as far as I know - can't comment on the recipient of my expletives). Put it this way people can hear me and I can hear them even if it sounds like tin cans & string.

I have some thoughts which I will now share with you, despite them being mostly the same thoughts everyone else expressed a year ago!

The good:

- it's really nice.

- omg so many pixels. I feel like maybe my last-gen eyes just can't track all the pixels. I had to move closer to my TV, sitting on a cushion in the middle of my room.

- General UI is snappy and seems logically laid out. 'Library' view in PSN Store doesn't have a million incompatible PS3 games in it, a trick the Vita hasn't yet fathomed.

- haven't tried Remote Play to the Vita yet, but I did set it up.

- I'm sure Master Race pixel peepers can decry it for insufficient hertz but it looks graphically ace to me in everything I tried. The ageing PC I have plugged into the same TV is generally only running at 720p so the PS4 has the graphical edge in my house.

- I love pretty much everything about the pad. It just feels great, and the touchpad and speaker are surprisingly neat. Battery life could be better, although it didn't run out on me and I played quite a lot today. I have concerns about longevity and intend to buy a second pad from somewhere with flawless returns procedures.

- so many pixels

The bad:

- omg the setup process took me through about 15 screenfuls of PSN setup even though I already had a fully functioning PSN account. Wtf Sony?

- the controller light bar thing is weird. On anything other than "dim" the reflection in the TV screen is diabolical, and on "dim" it's still annoying. I really like how GTAV changes the colour to match your character and pulses blue/red when you have a wanted level -- but the shape of my controller means I can't see the light so what does that achieve? I don't even have the camera, so there's certainly no 3d tracking going on.

- GTAV and FC4 have been out for a combined span of about eight minutes yet required around 2 GB of patch downloads. And then GTAV did its "installing" thing for about twenty minutes. And I had to type in three codes across the two games for pre-order tat. This is actually more hassle than Steam, which is backwards and stuff.

- the in-dash music sounds, as my wife put it, "like background muzak in a third-rate aromatherapist." She's not wrong. The "bonk" noise when you select something sounds the same at GT5, though, which is cool.

The ugly:

- God damned honey badgers.

Yeah. Really pleased.

Do a search on amazon for Orb PS4 headset you can get them for around £8 they are the exact type like the 360 headsets.
