PlayStation 4 Console Thread

No it all just depends on what words you want to use. I just think that comparing a port of one game that, as far as I know is presented almost as it was, to a collection of four games. One of which has been completely rehauled graphically including some of the finest looking CG cutscenes courtesy of Blur. Another not only lets you play maps online for the first time but theoretically it should have matchmaking too. Then there's a couple of other games but they barely work either so I don't really care about them. Then you mix it all together and yes it is more than a simple remake. It's a more of a remix and you're given the option to spin those wheels of steel how you see fit. My preferred method is to play Destiny until it isn't a steaming pile of garbage.

My console's HD remake is more worthwhile than your console's HD remake.

No one said that though? I think we're just having bored Monday morning discussions because there's not much else to do yet. I also don't think that any one had brought systems into the discussion. We really don't need to resort to that childishness again. We have our own childish pointless arguments thank you very much.

They're not even arguments as such because I agree with Pelekophoros, they're all worthwhile remakes. Except Sleepy Dogs of course.

If you want to call all remakes/remasters 'HD updates' and not differentiate between them, that's cool Pele but MCC is a vastly different beast to what has come before, eg Hitman trilogy which is as low budget as you can get, TLOU which has the extra power used to improve graphics & frame rate and then this with a unified front end so there isn't 4 separate games in a menu, you can customise what levels you play in what order etc.

If you insist on labelling them all the same, you can't appreciate the features of the package (compared to other remakes) in my opinion.

Talking of the care and work put into the MCC, it's odd that the PS4 thread these days seems to be all about how Driveclub was shambolic and online gameplay on the PS4 isn't up to the standard of MS's offerings. But there's little mention of failings with the One's titles. The MCC apparently had such care lavished on it that it's caused Jon - hardly one of MS's biggest critics - to comment that he's 'absolutely dumbfounded that this has been launched in such a state' and 'it's really starting to grate. I just want to enjoy it as it's meant to be played, but this is seriously putting me off' (because of the restart level/crash to desktop bugs in H2), and that he 'won't even mention the joke that is matchmaking.' Do these seem fair criticisms to you, coming from a massive fan of both the Halo games and MS's console(s)?

I think anyone with eyes and a brain can see that Chief took a hell of a lot more work to bring to console than TLOU.

But that doesn't excuse the state that MCC is in at the moment. I don't know why it's such a mess. Rushed to hit launch date? Overly-ambitious? Shit testing environment? Who knows.

Whatever the cause of the problems, it's put a huge dampener on the game, for me at least, and I don't know if I'll carry on with it until all the issues are fixed. If other people are thinking the same thing, I wonder if it's already too late.

After Driveclub, which I'm sure they must have known about, it's pretty inexcusable. And they deserve to fail, just to give them the kick up the arse to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm just gutted that it had to happen with Halo.

And just to finish up, I'd rather it be said that I'm a fan of good experiences rather than console manufacturers. That's why MS have been my manufacturer of choice over the last few years. And even though I'm sure they'll continue with their good work, this has definitely left a bit of a sour taste.

Add mixed languages subtitles to the list of things to fix. The arbiter trial at the begining of Halo 2 is a mess of english and spanish subtitles. I don't know about the other games, because Halo 2 was the only one without european spanish voices, so this time we've got english voices with subtitles.

EDIT

Shit, wrong thread. It's all your fault, people :)

Of course I can, in exactly the same way I can play Call Of Duty and appreciate both the campaign and the multiplayer, and will load up Far Cry 4 this week and appreciate all the very different features of that, despite them both being labelled as First Person Shooters.

My entire point is that a) a HD remake is a HD remake and b) labelling them as such doesn't mean they should be written off or take away from the experience you can have with them (especially if you've never owned the bloody console it was originally launched on). Each game should be evaluated on its own merits - not whether or not it has existed on a previous generation.

Because I made the mistake of posting some PS4 is 1 year old articles that weren't 100% positive about it.

Fuck you and fuck off.

I get you now, thanks - I didn't get that from the earlier posts :)

This thread contains many examples of classic Shimmyhill bullshit: he expresses his opinion and when somebody offers one that differs he calls them wrong and restates his original opinion again and again. That's why nobody listens to him anymore.

I am just calling out the SDF who blindly follow Sony and seem oblivious to the fact there are better exclusive titles on the Xbone even if they may run on lower spec hardware.

I guess people care more about the money they have spent and some weird loyalty to a company who they gave said money to than criticizing the many issues with the machine and the company who are arrogant to the customers they won from MS due to them being arrogant at E3!

It wasn't. £40 on the PlayStation Store at launch.

Look what the fuckers have done to us. Where we consider £40 not to be a full price release. Fight the power!! I generally don't buy if it's more than £40. Either by buying physical when on offer or digitally from the U.S. Store.

Yet the thread is full of many owners criticising the company about those issues.

The entire 360 RRoD 'experience' is basically why I left Xbox, though.

That translated to £30 on launch from online retailers, less soon after, and I'm told you can get it for about £15 now. It's a bargain and a great game. Even if you have the original the Left Behind DLC means it's worth that. There are plenty of things to moan about in this world, but the existence of The Last of Us Remastered is not one of them.

Microsoft clearly didn't want Sony walking away with the coveted RLLMUK Most Disappointing 2014 award.

DriveClub, AC Unity and MCC will be what this Autumn is remembered for. It's just bizarre. I guess a modern blockbuster is a train that cannot be stopped. The Chief is emblazoned 100 foot high all around the BFI IMAX, so he's going to be thrown out of the airlock on the release date whether he's ready or not.

Thank goodness the "shoot monsters in the face" bit of Destiny was finished in time, and it was just the story that was unfinished and broken.

Luckily for me I was never affected. I've had two 360s. An original launch one that I traded in for an Elite. My son has that now and it's still going strong.

Anyway, back to PS4.

oh don't get me wrong. I loved TLOU Remastered. I bought mine for less than £30 from the trading folder and sold it on for £25. I just think we shouldn't be considering £40 a less than full price level.
