PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I don't think we'll see Morpheus until half way through this generation, frankly.

I still don't quite see how the PS4 has enough grunt to do even 1080p @ solid 75 Hz (i.e. the DK2 standard), at least not without significant compromises to in-game graphics quality. And yet that's a pretty low bar for VR -- Oculus want to push responsiveness above 75 Hz, claiming it helps avoid motion sickness. And 1080p still leaves you with quite a visible screen door effect, where the individual pixels at the centre of your view are rather obviously visible.

That does seem like one way around it, perhaps leveraging some existing PS4 tech like the controllers and/or the camera/Move. But with most of the guts to actually run the headset in a separate console dedicated to Morpheus.

Anyone has issues with the left stick on their controller?

When playing Destiny you click & press forward on the left stick to run & keep it held to continue running. I seem to stop running within a couple of seconds & have to try again.

The Oculus Rift guy was giving a talk at a conference last week, which was really interesting. He was talking about all the other companies doing VR and specifically said they'd had Sony over - this was in response to a question about whether or not he was afraid someone else would release a consumer unit first, do a bad job of it and poison the well. Earlier in the talk he said he reckoned they were 2-3 years away from fully solving problems like motion sickness.

I don't think we'll see Morpheus until half way through this generation, frankly.

I had a chance to try the latest Oculus Rift last week. I was blown away, I think I said something along the lines of "this is what I have been waiting for all my life" early on. Unfortunately its effectiveness is also its downfall for me. In the roller-coaster demo (the one that goes inside a house) I had also said "wow, you really feel the kick in your stomach from the turns", and you do. However you really feel the kick in the stomach when playing a fast paced FPS, and that's what threw me. I think I played that FPS for 10 mins or so and I was feeling pretty sick. I really don't know how they can solve that, I mean if I was doing those movements in real life I would also have felt sick, and it's exactly that intense feeling that makes it good.

I'm genuinely excited about the possibilities with these projects but I do think there's a danger that we'll have good tech that developers don't make appropriate games for. The technology only takes you so far.

So if this update was for dragon age, why wasnt it a patch for dragon age. 200mb patch of nothing for a game ill never play.

It probably fixes an issue that might also affect save files on other games yet to be released.

It did, couldn't edit my club badge on Driveclub since the 2.0 update but this update has made it work fine again.

I'm tempted by Plants vs Zombies & Freedom Cry.

Resogun season pass for £2.60 is also a no-brainer.

Shame Destiny is not in the sale I would have purchased that to get rid of my retail version.

If you don't get £4 worth of enjoyment from the game and it appears on PS+ before March. I will send you a card with 4 x £1 coins attached.

I will buy it & it will sit on my games list whilst I play nothing else but Destiny for the next four months.

I'm really REALLY bad good at buying games to sit on a digital shelf & not play them.

I haven't got Ground Zeroes so I'm pretty tempted by the £7.50.

I chopped in COD:AW and a 360 copy of Watch Dogs for surprisingly good return at Game, with the sole notion that I'd use it to buy Dragon Age:I. But I don't like Game charging more than most places for it, so might just get them to convert all my game credit into PSN credit.

INTERESTING CONCLUSION: I might buy Ground Zeroes.
