PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Yeah, they've got a hell of a hit on their hands. With the Christmas season coming up, they could touch the 18 million mark before years end.

If it wasn't for the massive right down suffered by the mobile division, their earnings report would be quite encouraging.

I'm simply using electricity. It's upto the energy companies to supply renewable electricity, not mine.

I'm willingly paying for it so what does it matter?

Well, putting aside the environmental impact, using more electricity means the rest of us end up having to pay more in the near future - due to the shaky state of the U.K's energy grid.

It's not sustainable.

None of that money is finding its way back to the rookie team of kids they have handling the software side of things, evidently.

Why is it that there are absolutely fuck all videos on the store, or if there are, you've got to watch them in a ridiculously small window? Just seems really weird in this day and age of every form of streaming media available on it that they can't even easily provide (at the very least) some links to official youtube videos on the 'overview' bit of games. I wanted to show a mate some of the stuff coming up and either I couldn't, or we had to watch them in a window that was probably 1/10 of my TV.

Don't you press Square to go full-screen? I forget.

That works when they show trailers in the 'feed' thing but I was looking at the upcoming games on the pre-order bit of the store and couldn't do any full-screen shenanigans for the life of me. It also only had one trailer for everything, even though there were more official ones when I just looked on youtube.

Just seems a bit weird for them to not make more of it, if you've got a whole load of delayed til 2015 games ( ;) ) on the store then why not try and and promote them as hard as possible using very easy means at their disposal.

Except in actual fact I wouldn't be using "more" electricity, because if I was switching it off, I probably would be doing something else to use up more electricity. In fact, the low wattage (10W?) it draws is nothing compared to things that draws a lot, like 100W light bulbs being left on for hours or repeated boiling of kettles. PS4 being left on standby isn't the problem.

Surely switching it off + electricity consumed by doing something else is less than standby + electricity consumed by doing something else? Or are you saying you "use" the PS4 when it's in rest mode, perhaps fascinated by the orange light, and aren't off grilling a steak?

And yes, 10W is nothing compared to other big consumers, although the 100W bulb left on is a straw man. How many people run incandscent bulbs these days? It's probably more akin to a 13W (60W replacement) being left on. But it's a daft example, because you wouldn't leave a bulb on 24/7, unlike your PS4. Anyway, let's take this argument to its logical conclusion: standby mode is amazing and all 10 million PS4 owners use it. That's 100MW, or 30-50 typical wind turbines. Just supporting a console.

Now, throw in all the other shit that's left in standby (which may be drawing an inconsequential amount of power compared to the PS4) multiplied by the utterly absurd number of electronics we all have these days and it's really bloody obvious that there's no need to be glib about the fact that you've left yet another device constantly drawing power.

Unlike the other poster, I'm not going to get in your face about it, or call you names, but I am going to call you on daft hand waving.

And remote play on the Vita doesn't work either, even if the ps4 is powered up first. Might as well start powering it down fully until an update fixes all this.

Have you updated your Vita's firmware this week as well? I did both and I've definitely been able to use Remote Play since I installed 2.0.

This is a popular misconception, but really should be taken to off topic!

So I've had my first experience with a PS4 as my brother has just got one. Only been playing Diablo 3 so far, which is OK but hardly a looker or pushing the system at all. He's got Shadow of Mordor though, so I've have a look at that later.

The controller is a much, much better (as everybody says) so it's better for that alone. Be interested to have a crack at an FPS on it though.

I'm looking for a second game to purchase (playing shadow of mordor) for my week old PS4, I've never played the Metro games and I see Metro Refux is £19.99 on PSN. It looks good. Is it worth a punt for £20 squid?

*edit* oops, i see the same question was asked in the actual Metro Redux thread. Gets the thumbs up for a £20 purchase :)
