PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Let's not pretend that the XBO is without its technical problems. As clearly demonstrated in this weeks Chet & Jon podcast.

Dunno. I'll take a working online infrastructure that can handle a firmware update without buckling over some people going on about deficiencies in a podcast.

Fuck. MS are releasing big updates on a monthly basis without breaking a sweat.

They're people that know their stuff. They were basically saying that they'd had many problems with the XBO, most recently having an update completely brick Titanfall for one of them. To the point where they are going to have to completely delete the game, then reinstall.

Just saying that the grass isn't always greener.

The grass is much greener on bone when comparing PSN to live, i have listened to said podcast and they have a couple of annoyances but nothing that compares to the clusterfuck that is PSN!

I think bricking a game here and there isn't unheard of (it still shouldn't happen but there you go) but come on! PSN grinding to a halt for a shit load of people because of a firmware update? That's not even in the same ball park!!

Both consoles have that whiff of coming out a year too early OS wise but PSN feels like it's creaking along sometimes. How long are we going to make excuses for Sony?

Couple of annoyances! Chet calls it a "heinous plastic cowpat" that he wouldn't have under his tv if it wasn't for the games he wanted to play on it.

I'm sure reinstalling a game slowly is comparable to buying a game where half the functionality doesn't work even if the paid-for network is working due to the moon being full.

Thats the only reason we have consoles tho, i only still have a PS4 as my BF4 pals have them - i am done with the pile of shit that it is but BF4 is the game i play most and have even more fun with mates.

The bone has a far better line up and an online system that works and is light years ahead of PSN.

"Light years ahead" feels like a hell of an exaggeration. No one will deny that Driveclubs launch has been a clusterfuck, but I've been playing ps4 games online for a year now with next to no problems. Yes they need to sort their maintenance out, but being down for a day every few months is hardly the end of the world.

Sony are very, very lucky that MS botched the Xbox One reveal so spectacularly. Otherwise the company would be in an even more dire situation than it is now.

They'd have been in exactly the same situation - £80 cheaper than the competition without a camera no one wanted, and more powerful hardware.

Exaggeration is basically mandatory when expressing your opinions online nowadays. If you don't go really over the top with what you're saying people just won't take you seriously anymore :(

I have had a ps4 since jan/feb and over 500 hours of BF4 and some time on other games, more down time than in more than 10 years of xbox live.

Party chat is fucked, in one destiny game we (some mukkers) had more drop out of chats in that 2 hour session than i had in 10 years of xbox live.

I will not even mention all the other PSN issues such as the shop and maintenance but for a system to have more issues in under a years worth of play compared to over 10 years of live experience is not an exaggeration in any way at all.

Have a look at PSN down detector, it is basically down for people roughly 7 days a week at the moment for some period and has been for months - it is a totally fucked system and deserves nothing but disdain.

A day every few months? Are you sure you're not deliberately understating for effect?

Down detector shows multiple successive days of outages for xbox live too - https://downdetector.com/status/xbox-live/archive

I guess failure of a service on any publishers servers registers as an outage too.
