Some more features of the 2.0 update have been announced.

  • USB Music Player: PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.
  • Change colors: In addition to the ability to add a theme, PS4 owners can also change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and gray.
  • Players You May Know: PS4 will now suggest players you may know in the ‘What’s New’ section, recommending gamers your friends frequently play with.
  • Enhancements to Live Broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.
  • Content Area and Library: PS4’s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organize contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.
  • Enhanced Voice Commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”
  • Add To Library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.
  • Back Up Data: Data on PS4 can be backed up and resorted using USB storage. This will back up all data for the console, including settings, save data, screenshots, video clips, download data, and more.

That's on top of SharePlay, YouTube support and Themes.

Aren't we nearing a year past launch? No sign of that pause/resume feature.

Anyway, I know how these things go, although it boggles the mind a bit with the resources Sony must have. I wish they'd throw more at it and get better at iterating the dashboard, though. Better sorting of frequently used stuff sounds good, though.

It's funny, last gen Sony got loads of shit for having lots of pointless updates to add things like printer support and Microsoft was praised for doing 2 big updates a year

I think its the constant cycle of them adding bits they said were going to be on the ps4 or stealth fixing stuff that they never admitted wasn't working.

I guess someone in the office also found out about this new website that people upload videos to, it launched just after the ps4 and is called youtube....

You think adding printer support vs cutstom soundtracks is comparable?

I can't believe 2.0 doesn't have a sniff of suspend/resume (a feature touted at the initial reveal) - I'm getting the feeling Sony just made up a load of features they thought the competition would have at the E3 reveal then hoped everyone would forget about them.

Between this half arsed update, the regular PSN "issues" and the whole mess that is Driveclub I'm wondering if I could get a swap for an XBone......

Has anyone with a half decent set of turtle beach headphones got the Sonys to compare them to?

I like my headphones for the chat and lack of noise but the sound quality is nothing special, the Sonys get rave reviews on here but are they good because of the positional audio or the actual quality of the sound??

For me they're good because they're nicely built, for the price, and well integrated with the PS4. It just feels a quality experience all round. The surround sound is fine, and I find it somewhat useful in games. I haven't recently used any high end headphones to compare, but I'm sure that audiophile gear should sound better.

But these are very reasonably priced for what they do, sound pretty good and have prompted a lot of use by me, which is why I'd encourage someone who hasn't had a decent wireless headset before to consider some.

I've got a Turtle Beach PX4 headset and I just bought the Sony 2.0 headset a couple of days ago, and I think I prefer the Sony headset for sound quality, I find with the amount of settings on the PX4 I could never find a sound setting that sounded just right, whereas the Sony headset just sounded perfect out of the box.

I can't speak much for the quality of the mic because I can't hear myself talking, but I've had no complaints for other people. The Turtle Beach headset has to have a chat cable running from the headset to the DualShock 4 if you want to chat, so it's not completely wireless.

I do find the Turtle Beach headset much more comfortable though. The Sony headset makes my ears hurt after about an hour.

Cheers, i don't play with the settings on my TB set so maybe mine are in crappy sound mode or something :o

I often wear them for several hours so that rules out the Sony option i guess, the chat cable and them being so cheap almost justified a purchase but i think i will check out the new line of TB or a mix amp and normal headphones.

I have no comfort issues with the Sony headphones. I wear them for hours at a time with my glasses on and haven't had any ear pain. I find the little buttons that let you change the balance between chat and game audio to be unbelievably useful. A friend of mine has a habit of talking over every cutscene so I used that feature a lot when we first started playing Destiny :)

(Now I realise that the story is pants and he was probably doing me a favour)

PS3's default theme was really cool in that it subtly changed the background colour throughout the month, made it feel consistently fresh. It's a shame that it appears the PS4 won't be getting this.

Indeed, I liked that sparkly background. It seems that, in their effort to bring things back to basics and make it just 'for the gamers', Sony stripped away a lot of the nice-to-haves and subtle features like a bluray disc showing a picture of the film or the sparkly menu, and have essentially left us with what we've got now, which feels minimalist to the point of being bare bones. Surprised they didn't just go the whole hog and made it a bloody dos menu.

Well, since you asked and since i just went through a headphone phase.

I've tried the Turtle Beach, x11, x12, Tango's and Spectre.

I've also combined them with the DSS1&2 (apart from the Tango's as they already have surround sound)

I've also tried HM5's, Creative Aurvana Live and Audio Technica M50's

The Sonys were on offer for £59.99 so couldn't resist.

Out of all of these the Sony's are my favourite, not to say the others are bad but i think Sony have done a good job here.

The surround and quality of sound in single player games is way above all the other headphones i've used.

I can only attribute this to their VSS software being better as the other headphones i've used are no slouches

In online play i haven't quite found settings that let me sound whore as effectly as the Dolby (DSS2) with my Spectre's, that would be my poison for multiplayer.

Also, the mic is clear, the controls are intuitive (once you know where everything is) and the chat to game balance works really well.

I've also found them very comfortable but i know this is subjective.

Perhaps the only downside is the battery is only good for 4-5hrs, not a deal breaker but it may be a problem if you do marathon sessions.

Heres a few video's of a guy on youtube who took things even further than me.

It's nearly a year since a cancelled my pre order, days before release but finally just ordered a white PS4 with Driveclub bundle from Amazon. It will get here before 1pm tomorrow :)

Ordered Alien Isolation from Simply Games as it was going for £32 and also ordered NHL 15. I was going to sell DriveClub straight away to buy another game but I might hold off selling it and seeing what it's like.

A friend at last!!

You have Brad. I must say I let my heart rule my head over that choice :eyebrows: NHL is probably my favourite sports game of all time (playing it on and off since mega Drive days in 1991) but the bare boned version that was released this year really infuriated me. Anyway, i'm swallowing my pride as I do love the game and i've heard the gameplay is top notch.
