PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Just added myself to the PS4 list but there is no Resogun column! I think that's the most important one. Gonna be like this gens Galaxy Wars when it comes to the high scores I think.

Yeah, I did mention that before. But thinking on it we can pretty much guarantee that due to its Plus-ness everyone will be playing it anyway so a column doesn't seem that necessary.

True, true.

Plus I'm so bad at those kinds of games I probably don't want to compare my score with any of you anyway.

Yeah sorry, I didn't know Resogun had online co-op until 50+ people had already filled in the form. Let's just assume everyone has it. It's a two player game I imagine, so less of a hassle to find people to play with than trying to build a BF squad for example/

The problem I had with Super Stardust was once you were fairly capable at it one go could last well over an hour, which doesn't really lend itself to that type of game. Geometry Wars got the length of a game just right. I'm hoping Resogun does the same.

One the XO thread people are reporting that the kinect experience on the UI is very smooth and swish.

I was wondering, would the experience be similar with the playstation 4 camera?

I can't think why the voice recognition would be any worse, and the auto log in could also work.

Would any user interface stuff be worse with a PS4 cam than with the kinect 2, and for what reason?

Sony haven't spent anywhere near the amount of time or money on it as Microsoft. Voice commands work but are currently very limited.

Autologin works but not as gracefully. I'm not letting anyone else on my console though :quote:

The UI stuff on Xbox One seems to be all about voice recognition and very little about gestures/camera.

Sony have spent nowhere near the money or effort on their online services or UI, and they're unlikely to put much effort into the camera while it's not available with every console. It's all about next year's games.

If you want a next-gen UI rather than DDR5 memory, 1080p and some resources left for compute - buy a Bone.

Yeah I received 2 emails for the promotion too. For some reason the £44 discount only works on Battlefield 4 as when I tried it with any other game it still showed as full price.

Just tried it on Battlefield and, bizarrely, it's meant I could get it for £3 in spite of the email I was given suggesting something completely different.

Would have preferred Need For Speed cheaper but won't say no :) - do get the feeling Amazon have fucked something up somewhere though.

I don't know, it will probably never be as good as kinect but

New middleware from gesture recognition software firm SoftKinetic is said to "enhance" the full-body motion tracking capabilities of the PS4's PlayStation Camera, allowing it to "compete directly with Kinect".

The 'iisu' development package is capable of tracking the movements of four players at once, and is the tech powering Ubisoft's dance game, Just Dance 2014, on PS4.

Just Dance 2014 is "just the beginning of the types of games that can be created using iisu in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera", said a rep speaking with CVG.

"The 3D gesture recognition capabilities provided by iisu give PS4 game developers the ability to create a wide variety of virtual and augmented reality games, and allows PS4 to compete directly with Kinect yet at a better price point," they added.

Sony's sold-separately PlayStation Camera for PS4 features two camera lenses in a stereoscopic array, and serves as an upgraded version of the single-lens PlayStation Eye sold for PS3 and PS2. It detects body motion as well as pin-point detection of the lightbar across the top of the PS4's DualShock 4 controller.
